Some countries have already tried and rejected this.
Switzerland has for one. If Canada did this, it would cost them about $15. BILLION annually. Ontario and Prince Edward provinces are still looking into it anyway.
Funny how you never hear of “Universal Basic Effort”
When USA goes to S.P. then research will peter out because then it becomes another cost to be balanced with Defense and the Dole and all the other things the government pays for and politically not the most important cost. When research ends, antibiotics gradually reach the ends of their useful lives then are not replaced after which Medicine is back to 1910 or so i.e. you get sick you die.
Now look at them yo-yo’s that’s the way you do it

These first trials are, indeed, the road toward UBI. However it is a short road and the pavement ends when the cities that implement it first are stricken by economic reality.
Universal basic income = universal bankruptcy initiative
If you don’t work, you don’t eat- God
UBI Universal Basic Income is a 401K plan.
Republicans have already created it.
Here is a cookie Democrats. Now go home.
UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME
UBI Conservative = 401k = Success!
UBI Liberal = Welfare = FAILURE!
Do not fall for another Democrat scam!
Im just curious how in the hell this UBI scheme is to be paid for. Further, watch for demands for it start all over CA, especially with that nutball Gavin Newsom headed to the governors chair.
Anyone else see the inconsistency here?
MOST people are NOT "struggling to make ends meet." But UBI would guarantee EVERYONE a basic income.
So, in actual fact, it would be much more interesting to determine how people who are already doing fine would use UBI, since they would constitute the majority of the recipients.
But then, we all know just how quickly, after its introduction, UBI would be saddled with restrictions and means-testing, don't we? How it would quickly become just another form of welfare for the poor.
Regards,
So why is it called UNIVERSAL Basic Income?
Regards,
Ahhh...but we do. I grew up in a town in Minnesota surrounded by three Indian reservations. Anyone who could demonstrate that they were of sufficient ancestry to be a member of the tribe could obtain a "universal basic income", as long as they lived on the reservation. Many did. This income was paid by the federal taxpayers of the US.
The results were quite stark. Our town had the highest crime rate of any similar sized city in the state. There was rampant alcoholism and related car accidents. The cities jails were full most weekends. The housing conditions on the reservations were abysmal. There were no obvious building codes, and what locals called "tar paper shacks" were abundant. The "universal basic income" destroyed most of the lives it touched.
Lowering taxes would be the a much better fix.
Testing the methods to create a depentent oppressed and poor population while assuring a voting block for themselves
I don’t think universal basic income is the answer, but this sentiment and an understandable fear of the future is what is driving this:

Of course the commie rag nation would be for this. It’s nothing more than communism!
