It's supposed to be large for its type. A heavier slide allows the use of a lighter recoil spring, which in turn gives the Shield EZ a much easier to manipulate slide. The larger frame and slide weight, coupled with the weak .380 also provides for the reduced recoil.
Keep in mind the target audience for this gun: New shooters, women, and senior citizens.

How is this much different from an LC380, other than marketing?
Heck:
LC380: Length 5.94”, Width 1.04”, Height 4.44”, Weight 17.2 oz vs
MP380: Length: 6.7”, Width 1.15 / Height 4.98, Weight: 18.5 oz
The LC380 is said to have an easy racking slide and mild recoil.

Im not selling either one of them. :)
A theoretical person in that group might like either (small/light, larger/easier) and as long as its with them when they need it, and are happy enough with it to become proficient, great!
