In a landmark decision Wednesday, the military’s highest court ruled that the Navy’s top lawyer, Vice Adm. James W. Crawford III, illegally meddled in the case of a SEAL accused of rape. ***** Writing for the majority, Chief Judge Scott W. Stucky, a retired Air Force colonel, determined that not only can the military’s most senior attorneys be held responsible for bogus advice that helps to unlawfully coerce a prosecution but that Crawford “actually did so in this case." ***** "In this case, the Judge Advocate General of the Navy, Vice Adm. James Crawford, caused a decorated Navy SEAL to be wrongfully convicted. " ***** During the powwow, Crawford gave Lorge “the impression that failing to approve the findings and sentence would place a target on his back,” a sentiment apparently repeated during a later telephone call between the flag officers, according to the appellate decision.

Crawford was later promoted to vice admiral and put in charge of the Navy’s criminal justice system.

Was Vice Admiral James W. Crawford appointed up the chain by Barack Obama?

Yes:

Editor's note: This article was originally published in the Spring-Summer 2015 issue of Carolina Law . Shortly after publication, in May 2015, Crawford was nominated by the president for appointment to the rank of vice admiral and for assignment as judge advocate general of the U.S. Navy.

More proof of why the founders excluded the children of foreign nationals from being President with the natural born citizen requirement.

Too bad we did not have anyone that would stand for the Constitution.

I’ve long thought the Navy should fire all it’s lawyers and buy more ammo with the money they save.

I’m inclined to say that “Fat Leonard” is still the bigger scandal, but, all of this is proof that the rot is about as bad as a case of gangrene that has reached the waistline...

This degree of corruption in our military is really frightening.

Update on Fat Leonard, BTW:

So why isn't Adm Lorge coming under fire? He's willing to let a man he believes is probably innocent go to prison so he won't “have a target on his back” himself? And Crawford gets to retire?

So where is the courage in the officers’ ranks today?

Good questions. It all makes me wonder how these officers will respond in combat when TSHTF.
