The purpose of a bond is to make sure the defendant shows up for trial in a criminal case. If the bond was set at only $15k then she’s probably a very low flight risk.

The bus driver saw the truck coming, but assumed it would stop, and waived at the kids to cross the street.

If it's okay for a driver to wave kids across on the assumption that a moving vehicle will stop, the district needs to revisit its protcol. If that's not protocol, the driver needs to be fired.

I’m worried that it could be a wink wink nod nod and an open invite to see to it that Shepherd not live to see trial. You let her out, she is going to be fair game. She might not fare well in prison as well but in ladies prison she wouldn’t get killed the way a male might in a men’s prison had he done the same thing.

Oh can it HG!...Grundle’s been a Freeper since 2001... same as you. This is actually a sad story worth talking about!

Tragic - but the oldest rule in all our lives still applies...

Look Both Ways!

As a life long runner and a resident of a medium sized downtown urban area, my head is on a swivel 24-7, and I still have close calls several times a year.

I had a 89 year old man do something similar, seemed like a massive hit that moved my car several feet sideways. Was amazed that there was no damage—he hit my left rear tire perfectly, completely jammed up his own front end, making his car undrivable. Mine didn’t have anything but a big shiny mark on the tire.

I happened to be traveling on business in Indiana when this tragedy occurred. It was all over the news. I’m sure there are bigger factors than this, but my first thought about one contributing factor probably didn’t occur to anyone else: Daylight Saving Time. Rochester, Indiana must be about as far west as you can get in the Eastern Time Zone. As someone who lives on the east coast, I was surprised at how dark it was out there at 7:30 AM last week.

She’ll sue for not having texting/social media privileges while in prison.

One sad aspect of this story. The bus driver saw the truck coming, but assumed it would stop, and waived at the kids to cross the street. If the driver had not done that, the kids probably would not have crossed. The driver is in the wrong, but I always told my kids that, no matter what a signal says, NEVER walk in front of a moving vehicle unless you are certain you can get to the other side before they reach here.

Yes, the bus driver was wrong but he is going to have to live with the guilt of what happened the rest of his life.

I have no doubt that every time he tries to go to sleep, that accident replays itself over and over in his mind. He musty be consumed with guilt.

I do feel sorry for him as it was an honest mistake, but a very costly one that he can NEVER go back and undo.

That said, the girl should never be allowed to drive again and she should be jailed for criminally negligent homicide.

The primarily fault lies with her for not paying attention.

Based on the photos, it was a clear, sunny, dry day on a road with a very good line of sight.

No excuses at all for her not stopping.

More likely to be a cell phone than weed, IMO.

I have no use for weed, but they tend to drive more slowly than texters.

Well, no... not exactly the same.

You see, I don't read stuff online and then stick it onto my
blog and pretend that I'm the author of it. Nope. Never did it.

That would make me a liar, a thief and a dirtbag.

Like our intrepid "author" here.

Wouldn't it?

I am always appalled that they are rounding these kids up in the dark and hauling them to school. Back in the 60s I had to walk a half mile to my bus stop, but never in the dark. Now I hear the bus every morning at 6:20 turning around in my culdesac in the pitch black dark. If someone really wanted to do something "for the children" they'd change school hours, including travel, to daylight hours.

No, I am not excusing this woman, no way, no how. Coming into that bend she had plenty of notice to slow down, IF she had been paying attention. Near here, a few years back, a truck hit three or four children as they were waiting at a bus stop. It was early morning, dark and foggy and he just didn't see them.

It was dark when this occurred. Maybe she has vision issues?

How do you survive, go on, after losing your three children in one moment?

Going further into this , turns out the driver behind the lady who hit the kids saw the school bus and the kids and slowed down, and then realized that the lady wsn’t.

I hope she gets the book thrown at her.

No excuse.

It was only a few minutes after sunrise, i.e., completely dark.

My first guess was applying makeup, but that was before seeing her picture.
They should have been able by now to rule texting in or out, but maybe they are not stating that publicly.
With 3 kids in the backseat she could have been completely turned around until it was too late.
So senseless.

Wow either trucks are not built to take much damage or she was going very very fast.
