I have never seen FR "censor" liberal speech. You can expect some strong push back and you're are expected to defend your position in a rational, civil manner but one can take a "liberal" position and debate it subject to those conditions. The is a big difference between FR and Democratic Underground in that the latter will immediately ban you if you take a conservative position on anything.
I agree with you. I have never seen FR censor people with dissenting opinions or ideas. Then again it’s about ‘Free Republic’ which you cannot have without he 1st and 2cd Amendments, in that order. Liberals don’t want a Republic.
Libs are objects of an immediate ZOT here on FR. Difference being Jim Robinson is upfront in telli g all that this is a conservative site. FB,Twitter etc claim to be open to all, and each is now part of the world communication network. But they lie and won’t ever admit their scio political biases control who posts.
You might wish to take a look at the notice on the Free Republic home page:
“Free Republic is a site dedicated to the concerns of traditional grassroots conservative activists. We’re here to discuss and advance our conservative causes in a more or less liberal-free environment. We’re not here to debate liberals. We do not want our pages filled with their arrogant, obnoxious, repugnant bile. Liberals, usurpers, and other assorted malcontents are considered unwelcome trolls on FR and their accounts and or posts will be summarily dismissed at the convenience of the site administrators.”
