Barbara remained the active political wife until the very end. One of the very few First Ladies with a natural sense of humor and the confidence to show it for the public.
Her health went before her mind did. Barbara’a husband and son disappointed me with their compliant Globalist attitudes, but there were some good times too, during the Bush years.
I agree, she wasn’t perfect, but basically she came off as a kindly grandma, not nearly the “outspoken” loudmouth some here want to say. Yes, she would say what she thought, but only when prompted. She looked more the stereotypical quite deferring housewife, the type Hitler was insulting when declaring she wouldn’t just stand by her man and make cookies.
