“...I don’t think it can all be explained by fickleness, or being “compromised”...”

Maybe so, but-it seems to me that, THAT is why an ‘oath of office’ is administered. At that point you commit to the party and their vision.

I don’t think anyone in the GOP will ask fellow Republicans to tear babies in half and eat them...however, kicking and screaming like unreasonable children every single time you feel the President OWES absolute deference to YOU and YOUR views, can hardly be called ‘allegiance’ of any kind.

Sit down with the man and do ‘politics’ to get past it or to reach some agreement on how to go forward. It’s WHY you were elected and took that ‘oath’. But DON’T openly and gratuitously impede his every plan and defy every word he utters.

Republican Congressmen need to control their personal egos and support THIS President or else return GOP campaign money, change parties and campaign to take his place. It’s that simple.

The President deserves MUCH better!!

I think the oath is to protect and uphold the Constitution - not the party platform.

But in this case you are right, it would be almost the same thing: Candidate Trump forced the GOP to draw up a party platform that does just that - protects the Constitution, puts America first, defends the 2nd Amendment, drains the swamp - if the GOP had honored the party platform, they would also have kept their oath of office.

A lot of them are confused about what it is they are there to protect - they think the federal bureaucracy IS the Republic. So when President Trump comes along and tries to eliminate job killing regulations, drain the swamp, quit bad policies and stupid deals, they think he’s the threat!

Guys like Toomey (here in PA) think they are the patriots, they actually believe they are protecting the Republic from a reckless President. They have just been in DC way too long - they really think the federal government is what makes America great.
