Dr. Anthony I-want-to-wreck-the-economy Fauci threw cold water on this. He basically called it anecdotal at best.
Fauci must be sterilized!
He was being a good scientist. He basically said it is anecdotal until good controlled clinical studies were done. Which is absolutely true. Which does not mean that it doesn't work, and he wasn't saying it didn't. Just that we can't know for sure yet.
While encouraging, it is a small study with a sample size that does not meet the standards for approval, that’s why Dr. Fauci called it anecdotal. If you were fair you’d have also included his statments that the drug would be quickly evaluated in the proper way and that is being done. The author himself said:
“Conclusion: Despite its small sample size our survey shows that hydroxychloroquine treatment issignificantly associated with viral load reduction/disappearance in COVID-19 patients and its effect is reinforced by azithromycin.”
Determining what the right combination of the two drugs is will be a part of the ongoing evaluation.
What Fauci is saying is he would like to have real data.
That’s not an issue for anyone in the scientific medical community.
President Trump is going to make damn sure this is available to sick people under “compassionate use” federal law he himself got passed.
He knows all of this and will push it ahead to save American lives.
Anecdotal to him means that even if it works effectively, he won’t be convinced that it worked until he does trials and controls and contemplates his navel.

That is a distortion of what he said.
it's an approved drug for malaria and apparently other maladies. They know the dosing. It's being used and is successful.
That runs counter to the fact that Trump mentioned chloroquine several times in the briefing yesterday and Fauci is one of his foremost advisors on this.
