It’s amusing to see the media lying with statistics, especially when they’re criticized President Trump for presenting them exactly the way they are now.
When President Donald Trump began claiming that the U.S. led the world in coronavirus testing, liberal pundits were quick to point out that you’d have to adjust for population to make such a claim. Fair enough. President Trump did clarify at least once that he was talking about total tests, not per-capita when later making the claim.
Yet now the same people in the media who criticized Trump for not measuring tests on a per-capita basis are talking about total coronavirus cases and deaths on an absolute basis in an attempt to attack Trump. Here’s one such recent example from MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who said that we have both the highest number of cases and the most new cases per day (and bear in mind that the data point for China is fictitious):

So how do we compare on a per-capita basis?
I had initially planned on comparing the rates of cases and deaths per million among the top twenty countries with the most reported cases, but China’s data is too unreliable to include them in this analysis. With China excluded, among the top nineteen most infected countries, the U.S. ranks ninth in terms of cases per million, and tenth in deaths per capita. Spain and Italy are suffering nearly six times as many deaths per-capita as the U.S., Belgium over four times as many, and France more than triple ours.
So no, the U.S. is not number one in coronavirus cases when properly measured – but it is fair to wonder why pundits seem to wish that we were.
It’s astonishing how the MSM-Democrats seem to be exploiting every conceivable trick, artifice, and ambiguity to drive down the economy, prolong the crisis, and make it look like a disaster for America. The thoroughness of the effort is remarkable.
I don't see that as astonishing at all. Instead, it seems par for the course for them.
Democrats are silently cheering high COVID deathrates. Where I work the Democrats obsess over the numbers and these people are not numbers people.
It would be interesting to see that graph with New York City data excluded. You know, that place where deBlasio and his staff were telling people to live a normal life right up until March 12!
Try to blame that on President Trump.

NYC is roughly 1/3 of the entire nations deaths, and the adjacent areas of NY, NJ, and CT are most of the rest.
And while the murderer Andrew Cuomo wasted time playing politics with hydroxychloroquine New Yorkers, his constituency I believe, were dying in droves.

It’s a wonder anyone is still alive there.
You are right. Your per capita numbers aren`t the highest in the world. It`s still true that your absolute numbers are. Also, at the moment your numbers seem to be rising faster than in most other countries. As of today you have already “overtaken” Portugal and Germany in infections per capita. And i don`t think there are many people who are happy about that. Telling it as it is does not mean you wouldn`t prefer it to be different.
There’s a bunch of alleged FReepers who also cheer the increases in case numbers, especially the deaths. All to validate their sick world view.
NYC area was on the order of 1/3rd of US cases and deaths. I don’t think that has changed.
If they understood math, they wouldn’t be Dems. None of their policies add up.
