Jefferson called out the evils of slavery perpetrated by the English King. Too bad for their posterity (us), that other delegates at the convention removed what he wrote in his submitted draft. [1][2]
[King George] waged cruel War against Nature itself, violating its most sacred Rights of Life and Liberty in the Persons of a distant People who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into Slavery in another Hemisphere, or to incur miserable Death, in their Transportation thither.[3][4]
The effort would have been over before it started had Jefferson's language remained in the document. It wouldn't have been unanimous, and likely not been issued at all.
