First, at the Passover Seder every year Jews retell from the Bible the story of Hebrews being slaves to the Egyptians for 400 years!! Long before the arrival of anyone but indigenous peoples in North America. Slavery.
The tribes in pre-white America also took rival tribe members as slaves, and later white settlers as slaves.
I don’t want to look up the figures I heard this morning but tens of millions of slaves in other countries dwarfed the 1800s US figure. Arabs and Africans ran it all before the Portugese, Dutch, Spanish, British and French took over.
In Jamaica, Kamala Harris’s great grandfather was a slave buyer and trader.
Estimate TODAY are 40 million slaves around the world NOT in the USA.
