You seemingly aren't grasping the fact that yes, Lincoln did in fact try to "sell out" on the issue of slavery.
Funding his corporate buddies was more important to him.
Lincoln led a war against slavery and then he gave his life for the cause.
He led a war to subjugate the South, and which he tacked on "ending slavery" about 18 months after he started the war. He didn't "give" his life for the "cause", the "cause" was over and he was shot unwillingly. At least I presume he was unwilling to get shot, but I could be wrong about that.
