I’m reminded of the old Sanford and Son TV series in which Red Fox (Sanford) goes to a dentist, sees it is a black dentist, then demands a white dentist because he believes the black dentist got his position only because of race and not qualifications.

Well. Whitey getting killed when that new bridge falls could be looked at as liberals feeling better about themselves. Better yet, force good white liberals to be “volunteers” to “test” the designs (yes, I like that).
For new grad engineers, at this point I am more likely to hire a candidate who has either gone through a co-op program or gone to night classes and working as a technician, designer, or construction craft. The latter is the route I took, and is not easy. But such a route means a lot of practical experience. Still, the zampolits in HR still will only consider those who finished the degree in the standard 4 years, and no practical experience outside SJW activist crap.
