Ruger P85 MK-II 9MM- Triple Safety, Ambidextrous Safety & Magazine Release, Lightweight for size & capacity, Very Comfortable Grip & Feel, High Capacity Mags 10 - 35 Rounds, easy "Pick up" Ammo is common World Wide. Very comfortable in Hand, (Personally if I could have only 1 Pistol this would be it.)
.44 Magnum Revolver- Make sure it's comfortable to grip one handed and as long a barrel as You feel OK with because even 'light" Loads pack serious power.
.44 Caliber Winchester Lever Action Rifle (or similar) between this and the .44 Magnum Revolver both using the same Ammo is a 2-Fer. And is just fine to "reach out and touch something if needed."
Remington or Mossberg 12 Gauge in 3.5" Chamber. You can use any 12 GA Ammo from 2.75 up to 3.5" Rounds in a SG Chambered in 3.5" but NOT Reverse or Rounds will JAM !!!
If You are wanting a Sniper Type Rifle ask others here because I'm not that type of Shooter.
Glock Model 20 in 10-mm Auto (Pistol)
Ruger Super RedHawk .480 Ruger 7.5” barrel (Revolver)
That old Colt Woodsman taught me just how good a gun could be.
I got it used but it was just as accurate or more so than most .22 rifles. Never even thought about jamming.
Alaska sourdough Russel Annabel after using a woodsman to fight off a pack of 5 wolves, a Mother and 4 yearlings, said they ought to build a monument to the .22.
Of course if they had it would be torn down,
Ruger LCR in .357. Wheel gun never jams. But, the red dot embarrasses me due to shaky hands for all to see. Dances around like a spastic has the gun.
Not trying to hijack the thread but I haven’t shot a gun since I was in the USAF 1976-80 and I’m 62 now. We want to do a lot of hiking much of which will be in California. Want protection from bears and mountain lions and BLM zombies should they come into my neighborhood. What would be a good gun that I could hide while hiking (I know in California it wouldn’t be legal) and also protect my home?
Sw compact mp shield
A great small option is the Ruger SP-101 snubnose revolver chambered in 357. Small, reliable and built like a tank. You can load it with 38 special for range and/or every day carry. Load it with 357 in the woods and its gonna take care of anything youre likely to run into, however Id rather have a 4 to 6 barrel for a bear. But then you are talking a larger gun.
I got one in 3 1/16” barrel. I love it!
Thanks for recommend of the 640. Watched some YouTube reviews. Interesting.
I have a 4 Model 19
My first pistol. Bought it used for $219 about 30 years ago.
Ruger 1911,
I want to try one.
A Pistol/Rifle combo
Would be A Very
Interesting thread!
I have a lightsaber because I’m a Jedi or something.
I’m a collector and have lots of classic old firearms in addition to modern ones. I will just go with the more modern ones here and choose the ones that are functionally be best rather than the most valuable.
Pistol = CZ 75BD 9mm. This is the most accurate and reliable handgun I own. I have never had a single failure to feed or stovepipe and its so ergonomic its like it was made for my hand.
Revolver = Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum This is what goes in my pack when I go hiking. This hand cannon would stop a charging grizzly bear and being a revolver, its super reliable. Rugers are built like tanks. It will never wear out.
Walther P99 because it feels like part of my arm.
Can’t afford one...just go to gun shops and hold them for a little while.
[Trying to get Himself to try and trade in the Beretta 9 for one, no luck so far]
Love that, too.
Plus, there’s the psyop factor.
Some chick just shot you in the face with a cute bubblegum pink gun.
There goes the last of your street cred.
:D
My first was a Colt .38 detective’s special; just like my grandfather had when he was in Chicago PD. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Springfield XD-9, but I really miss that revolver. I regret selling it.
Work in bear territory - so my favorite gun is the one I have with me. Usually, its a full size RIA 10mm double stack Rock Ultra. Pretty heavy, so its usually carried with a chest rig. Favorite gun, overall, is the Marlin 1895 STP Trapper .45-70 that my wife gave me one anniversary. Its was a pretty rare and I love the shorter length.
