RE: I was at the Taipei airport about 28 years ago when I saw what I believed to be a Chinese basketball team arriving. All evenly over 7’ and eerily similar looking. My first impression was clones.
How come we never see these 7 footers play in any international tournament? The only tall player from China that I can remember is the 7’6” Yao Ming who played in the NBA for the Houston Rockets.

Good question. I have had the same question. Maybe something they decided not to advertise as being too obvious or other technical difficulties.
Probably because China develops things internally and perfects them before letting the world know about it.
