Apu has been a favorite character on “The Simpsons” since the show’s debut. Now, Hank Azaria feels like he should apologize to every Indian American for being the voice of the hard-working and ever-reliable owner of Kwik E Mart.

The animated character came under fire for stereotypical behavior.

In today’s politically correct environment, it didn’t help that the Indian immigrant was voiced by a white actor.

Yes, this is a great outrage. But it gets even worse. Seth MacFarlane voices Brian on “Family Guy”. And MacFarlane is not a canine! Why the American Kennel Club has not lodged a protest is beyond me.

Like many such controversies, I imagine there are less than half a dozen campus activists or paid SJW radicals somewhere who are the ones pushing this. I doubt its an issue that South Asians care about at all.

Stereotypical? Well, isn't it TRUE that most recent immigrants from India or Pakistan speak with an accent? Aren't many involved in the operation of convenience stores? (As Joe Biden famously pointed out.) And wasn't this character portrayed in a favorable light?

The subtext of many of these criticisms of "stereotypes" seems to be that it is degrading to exhibit some of the common characteristics of your ethnic group. Isn't that itself racist?

For example, it was "safe" on the left to mock Melania Trump's accent because she's white, European, and the wife of Trump. So you see how quickly the left is to engage in behavior that they condemn others for, as long as the target is on the approved-to-hate list.
