In the 70’s my wife and I worked carnivals to pay for college. We used RANG. Roughly meant “there is a fight. come and join the fun”. One night I was working close to the Farris wheel. There was a couple of 13 year old kids running wheel. One of the riders was a 20 something guy what was trying to rock the seat. The ride came around once. The kid stops the ride and ask the older guy to stop rocking the seat. The ride comes around a 2nd time and the kid politely asks the rider to stop rocking. The ride come around a 3rd time and the guy was still rocking the seat. The young kid stops the ride and picks up a 2” wrench and hits the guy across the head. Knocks him out cold. The two kids pull the guy out of the seat and drag him into the grass behind the ride. They come back and start the Ferris wheel up like nothing happened. Carnivals were a different world.
Grew up going to a carnival back in those days. Those carnivals (and the carnies) could be pretty rough.
Rocking the seat on a Ferris wheel is dangerous. A popular kid in my class was killed that way. He must’ve been only 8 years old.
