“Combat troops?” Hardly, most of them are lead by really good staff officers punching their tickets.

I once had a Battery Commander that was a great staff officer. To save wear and tear on our jeeps, he ordered his 4 platoon leaders to pair up on their Jeeps. The evaluators took us out in 30 seconds.

He also encoded coordinates wrong on another mission, leaving a Vulcan platoon with a 10 kilometer long route defense. Captain Sobel couldn’t have done worse.
