Here is a chart showing the date the mandate was enacted. At that time the state said it would take two weeks to work, but later amended that to four weeks. So we labeled four weeks later, see the big drop? Me either. See the huge spike while mask wearing was 90% plus. And then there is the date the mandate finally expired. Kind of ironic how the mask mandate didn’t work to reduce cases until the mandate was ended, or is that paradoxical? You will note that at no time during the mandate were cases ever lower than before the mandate. And as I constantly said, what really matters is mask wearing. Throughout this period Minnesota had one of the highest mask-wearing rates in the nation, most of the time over 90%. Yeah those masks worked great, as virus collection devices.
Of course, mask nazis can assert that if it hadn’t been for the mask mandate, the numbers would have been even worse. But there is zero empirical basis for such a claim, which is pretty much the lowest form of argument.
Some states and municipalities are now re-instituting mask mandates. That is the weird thing about public policy in general: failure rarely discredits a policy. Far more likely, failure will lead to calls to double down or reinstate the policy that didn’t work the first time. I don’t know what to do about this, except try to get voters to

The mask mandates are just weird.
Think about restaurants—you have to take off your mask to eat or drink—and that defeats the whole purpose of wearing the mask in the first place.
Most folks don’t even wear the masks correctly—again defeats the purpose.
The masks the average folks use are not that effective compared to what medical professionals use—again defeating the purpose.
Sometimes dumb is just dumb—and you can’t fix stupid.
I have read literally hundreds of papers about this topic.
Not a single one measured adherence or compliance with the “mandate”.
They compare a non-mandate stste where 60% of people mask to a mandate state where 55% of people mask, and draw conclusions.
I gave a talk today about vaccines. It is a disgrace that, after 20 months, we haven’t even scratched the surface of the most important things we need to know to make proper policy.

Part of the problem is that we live in an age of censorship—and it is impossible to have a serious debate about any topic when someone’s career can end at any time if they hold an unpopular opinion.
Big Pharma has the same problem—anyone on staff who raises concerns about their products can be fired on the spot.
That is a major reason why I refuse the vaccines—I do not see any possibility of a fair discussion of the benefits vs the risks in any setting.

Yes they do. If you say no then you are misidentifying the purpose of the mandates. the Virus is not the target or the cause of the mandates. The virus is the excuse. They are an exercise in forcing the population to comply with unreasonable dictates from the new masters to inure the people to the tactic which will be the normal method of government .
Heck, I would ask if anything we are doing is having any effect.
I look at worlometer often in reading different stories of different countries, or states, on FR. Mostly, I look at deaths, and the plots all largely look the same. The phase of the surges may be different, based on the seasons.
There appear to be no non-linearities or anything to suggest people locking down, masking or vaccinating. The virus just keeps doing what it’s doing.
The only thing that appears to work is Russia fiddling with the numbers to have flat levels of deaths, that have to be adjusted from year to year based on reality.

Our whole COVID response as a nation has been an epic failure from start to the present.
Stop and think about this for a second.... what was the plan? Stay at home until you are so sick you have to come to the hospital for your ventilator. This thing is so politicized and inept that they never fully explained risk factors so people could self-assess, never promoted vitamins and preventative measures, refused to consider or promote any therapeutics, and they shut the nation down for two weeks that turned into an eternity.
Best healthcare system in the world and they had NO PLAN for treatment before hospitalization.
It’s been vaccine or bust. That’s the only plan. They won’t even consider changing it despite mountains of evidence that there are alternatives.
The lock-downs, masks mandates, shuttered schools, and “social distancing” are nothing more than virtue signaling by politicians.
There is no science that supports it. NONE. In fact, there is pretty good evidence that the “remedies” did more harm than good.
At this point all the data about everything has been cooked in a multitude of ways.
Garbage data means garbage analysis means garbage conclusions.
All we know for sure is that we have a Pfascism pandemic that is out of control worldwide, and the liberty of all human beings is under the gravest threat since World War II.
