There are indications that many potential buyers have had enough of this circus and stopped looking.

That's me.

Been shopping for a new car for over 6 months. Can't find what Ii want, and when they do have something to sell, it has to be transported from some other dealer of the same make. I don't trust that process and I wouldn't have seen the vehicle before driving it or before buying it.

Will have to wait for the chip 'crisis' to end and perhaps then I can get what I want. I'll have to keep maintaining my current vehicle until it dies or I get something new or almost new.

BTW. the new car dealers have turned into used car lots, and most of them ain't worth spending money on.

The large local dealer has a huge back lot area which can hold hundreds of new and used cars—pre Covid it was packed to the gills.

Today—zero—nothing—not new, not used, nothing.

Never seen anything like it—the size of a football field.

Best if you can wait. The closest I could get the vehicle I wanted was over 200 miles away. And, few hours before I made the trek with my car trailer the dealer sprung it on me that, “Oh by the way, the car has 550 miles on it because we had to use it as a loaner”. Boy was I hot. Really sketchy business practice, but like I said, they don’t care. People lined up to buy. So yeah, definitely wait if you can.

Yup, we’ve been looking long & hard too. Jumped on real fast when we did find the fluke of an excellent Chevy Suburban traded in at a Hyundai dealership. Very little otherwise that didn’t disappear fast.
