The author is presumptuous. I would suggest two alternatives here:

1. Maybe the jury didn't believe the dingbat cop's story.

2. Maybe the jury decided that they would hold an armed officer of the law to a higher standard than a doctor or an airline pilot when it comes to assessing cases of potential criminal conduct.

Just as in the Rittenhouse case, the jury weighed the evidence, and rendered a verdict. They deliberated several days before coming to their decision. That’s how the system works.
