The way you con somebody is to present him with something he WANTS to be true.
Her investors WANTED TO BELIEVE they were getting in at the beginning of a wildly brilliant women’s career. The WANTED to think they were supporting the next Steve Jobs. The wanted to think that in 10 years they could brag about how they saw her potential early.
Is there something wrong with that?
All investors (which includes just about all humans in one way or another) want a good return on their investment (of time or money).
Bottom line, she is a sociopath.
They WANTED to think they were supporting the next FEMALE Steve Jobs. This is very important in the push for women in STEM endeavors. Holmes was their poster girl. That she looked good on TV and magazine covers helped.
Even when flags were being raised early on, accusations were met with the scorn of being sexist, of not wanting women to succeed in male-led fields.
