US Senate Candidate Mike Durant: ‘Hard Not to’ Vote for McConnell as LeaderBy Jim Hoft

Just what we don’t need. Another wobbly RINO in the US Senate.

John McCain-protégé Mike Durant, who is running for US Senate from Alabama, is refusing to join President Donald Trump in calling for Mitch McConnell’s ouster as Republican Senate leader.

Asked at a recent local Republican Party meeting in Alabama whether he would vote for McConnell to serve as leader, Durant responded, “Well, he’s run unopposed since 2008.”

“No one is running against him,” Durant added. “So, if no one’s running against him, it’s pretty hard not to.”

Durant’s campaign has strong ties to McConnell. Durant’s spokesperson, a consultant in Washington, D.C. named Jahan Wilcox, lists McConnell as a former employer on his website. Wilcox previously tweeted that he was “#NeverTrump” and called Trump a “clown show.”

The Gateway Pundit previously outlined Durant’s backing from Never Trump and liberal political forces under the moniker “More Perfect Union.”

Even if no one were to challenge the turtle, any senator could simply abstain from voting for him. This isn't rocket science. We need to stop electing these RINOs.

It’s hard because the Deep State will crush any resistance.

Translation: “I don’t have the guts or the funding to oppose Mitch and his RINO agenda.”

We can’t keep electing Assistant Democrats and think they won’t assist the Democrats.

Then there’ll be no change in the current trajectory of the US government’s slide in corruption and ineptitude.

We have 3 choices in Alabama; Durant who, while I respect his service, frankly sends up warning signal left and right. I have no idea who the PAC is that is running his ads. Then we’ve got what’s her name who worked for Shelby. I wouldn’t touch her with a 10 foot pole because Shelby. Then we have Mo Brooks who is the only real choice. People are easily bamboozled, though. A FReeper the other day said he would vote for Durant due to his history. I asked the FReeper what history other than being a POW and operating a business that lives on government contracts. I got no reply.

You are correct on both points; and, of course, human behavior is trickier than the rules of physics.

Someone a long time ago suggested that to not vote for him in this relatively small community is to vote against him, which in turn will result in being sidelined...that the more effective solution is to buy time, remain involved and quietly and very carefully form a coalition that will soon vote for a more capable candidate.

The answer is in his quote. No one running against him. McConnel lied to Cruz-his own words. Where is he? Would a Cruz or Paul hurt our POTUS chances in ‘24? Something tells me Paul is the more appealing one when it comes to the freedom argument.

Durant is toast in Alabama. Britt is funded by Shelby’s millions. Go Mo!

Paul, Cruz, or Hawley would make great Majority Leaders.

Even if McConnell wasn’t a simpering RINO, he’s now got all the energy of a dying turtle.

As a side note to this thread, I agree with freepers who support Sen. John Kennedy as Republican Senate leader.

Insights welcome.

When Jesse Ventura appointed Dean Barkley to fill Wellstone's Senate seat for its final two months, both parties made him feel very welcome to garner his support for pet projects. The Senate is too small to sideline a senator who speaks for an entire state. I call B.S. on that argument.

No, none of them are great. If we actually had any standards, we would say that Paul is okay, Hawley is suspect, Cruz is a phony, and most of the other 47 are downright awful.

We’ve got about a dozen or so Congressman who are good. That’s about it. Unless 99% of GOP Senators and 80% of GOP Congressmen are primaried, it might as well be 2009.

Most learn after a short time here that it is impossible to intimidate FReepers with profanity, some take longer.

You would have a better chance, if at all, with a cogent response.

As it stands, your response cites an event that bears no similarity to the matter we are discussing as well as a nonsensical premise. Your assertion the Senate is too small for the Minority Leader to sideline a senator is absurd.

Are you saying "sidelining" has never occurred? Is there some rule or device which prevents the ML from doing so?

Those are rhetorical questions because you get the last word.
