Interesting because the two guys who were recently caught impersonating Homeland Security agents are walking free after duping Secret Service agents.

A couple of years ago I would have considered this akin to “stolen valor” ... but now, as it involves the DOJ, there is little “valor” to be “stolen”.

I've never been undercover, never been law enforcement.
However, I'm pretty sure if you were an undercover agent one of the principle tenets of being undercover is to maintain your cover ID - ie. not run around telling random people (such as teenagers at a fast food joint) that you're an under cover agent. ;-)
