“Oh thanks! But I don’t drink.”

I have found bubbly lime water to be a truly refreshing substitute for beer. Some call it a tonic and lime. Aldi has an inexpensive 12 oz. can version. Saves a lot of money. I’m losing weight. The drink is satisfying. If I really want another beer I’m free to enjoy one, but it is not as enjoyable as the bubbly lime water. Two bottles of wine in the fridge have been there for weeks. I look at them and think, “Not right now. Maybe later.”

What pushed me to change was watching my spouse start to drink more than me. Cannot afford that in more ways than one. Do not drink anything you do not enjoy in every way, and when you do, receive it with thanksgiving for God’s gracious provision. I am probably an exception, but never made a decision never to drink alcohol again. No support group. Strange thing, too: no withdrawal sweats or insatiable cravings.

At bottom, there is the invitation and command from God to pray to Him. “Call upon Me in the day of trouble, and I will answer you.” This pertains to every situation in life.

That’s basically the story of the Good Samaritan.

A man robbed and beaten, laying on the side of the road.

A passing priest made some pious noise but did nothing.
A passing Levite did the same.
It was the dirty Samaritan that actually put out time and money and effort to help the man.

Today the left and rats are the priests and Levites in that story. Bleating all kind of “We care” virtue signaling noise but doing nothing to really help those in need. It is the dirty Trump supporters who will be like the Samaritan.

Stay strong and don’t give in to the voice telling you it’s just one more time. Go to AA or whatever program you deem necessary. My first year I was crazier than a sh*t house rat, but it got much easier once I was able to erase all the triggers. I’m coming up on 15 yrs and still have a strong fear of addiction, which is good.
