The word ‘hate’ means that those crimes are ones which minorities cannot commit.

War on drugs only failed as it wasn’t properly executed.

“Hate” crime is the gateway drug to the Thought Police.

If it is applied equally?
.... which will never happen on a consistent basis.

It’s a political tool.

I am completely dead set against “hate” legislation.

There should be color-blind laws on the books to prosecute when needed. “Hate” legislation is a Leftist side-show in my opinion.

I find it odd that a .223 round at point blank makes an "X" mark on the forehead of the victim. No blood, puncture mark or braking of the scull just an "X" mark and a poof of air moving her hair and clothing.

I can't remember what video game makes an "X" when you hint a specific target.

The purpose, imo, is to demonize hate.

Hate is fine. God hates all over the place and God is good.

What difference does the 'hate' in 'hate crime' make?

One thing and one thing only: SJW.

First, a hate crime is not the opposite of a love crime.

“Hate crime” is a term that does not appear in the United States Constitution. It is an invented term in popular culture to describe a feeling, look, or attitude that is not popular. It some cases it describes an actual crime committed against a protected class member by a member of a class that is not protected.

To my knowledge, a hate crime cannot be committed against a member of a protected class by another member of that protected class. Such an event would be a non-hate crime.

Scene from the movie True Grit…..

Maddie: Why do you suppose they hung him so high?

Rooster: Maybe they thought it would make him more dead

Hate crime designation was started for Matthew Shepherd’s death. Turns out his killers were also homosexual. For that reason, hate crime should simply be CRIME: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/26/the-truth-behind-americas-most-famous-gay-hate-murder-matthew-shepard

Since when have most liberals, most progressives, and all Marxists ever made sense?

End of story!

They are THE “existential threat” to our country, our Constitution, our freedoms, and our very lives.

If you aren’t Free, all else is secondary or irrelevant.

Once more into the breech and take no prisoners this coming November’s election!!!

What about crimes such as the murder of an accused adulterer that are committed out of love? Does the fact that it’s a “love crime” make it less serious?

I have often mused that if I were president, I’d create a new Cabinet position — secretary of the Department of Fatuous Gestures.

Would be an unending task.

There is a very interesting page put up by the Dept of Justice on hate crimes. Dept of Justice - Hate Crime Statistics

What's not clear to me is if these crimes were all prosecuted as hate crimes and whether convictions were received.

If you scroll down, it appears that 21% of the perps were black. So it seems that the hate crime laws might be working against minorities. But it looks like it is making a protected class out of sexual orientation.

It is the criminalization of thought. Once an emotion is illegal it is over. We are so screwed.
