New York to Vote on Including Abortion in State Constitution Because…It's New York

The democrat-controlled legislature in the state of New York has passed an amendment that, if fully enacted, would enshrine the right to contraceptives and abortion of pre-born children in the womb.

”New York will always be a safe harbor for abortion care,” Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul stated in a tweet.

New York will always be a safe harbor for abortion care, but we also need Congress to act.

The Senate filibuster is preventing a majority of Senators from speaking on behalf of a majority of Americans. @POTUS is right: We must suspend it to protect reproductive rights.

— Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) July 1, 2022

The amendment will have to pass the state Senate in order to go to the voters some time in the next two years.

If this all sounds like déjà vu, that’s because it is; last week, California announced the same plan for their state constitution.

It seems that both California and New York are in a race to the bottom, democratically spiraling downward to see who will crash and burn first.

Is it not a requirement that State constitutions be in accord with the US Constitution in at least certain resoects, such as the right to life covered by due process?

It was put into Nevada Revised States in the 1990’s. It won’t get voted out anytime soon.

”New York will always be a safe harbor for abortion care,” Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul stated in a tweet.

“Abortion care” is an oxymoron. Half of the patients (by intent) are guaranteed not to survive it.

Because New York hates it’s minority folks and doesn’t want them to have children. One thing you’ll always notice about liberals is they’re beyond SELFISH!

“Will always”

It never was. Hence its absence from the Constitution and their need to insert such language into it.

I am sure they will make abortion the most extreme limits. It would be interesting if the people votes it down due to overreach.

USC code is clear on this. The Fed’s already have a definition of what is and is not illegal. Read it for yourselves. NYS and California are not exceeding the Federal supremacy clause at all.

New York, California, other similar situations.

I just don’t get how sane people could live there.

I lived in Ohio for almost two years about 20 years ago, it seemed like a foreign country compared to Texas.

Less than two years and a 54k a year job plus year round per diem could not keep me there.

Came back to Texas for 40k, never gave it a thought.

Ain’t just them apparently. Just another notch in the economic belt to add to someone’s itinerary when visiting NevaDUH.

I was born in California. My whole family lives here, my job is here, and I don't see why I should have to pack up and move just because the fruits and nuts have taken over. I'm just stubborn like that.

Haven’t the salaries in Texas caught up with Ohio now?

What’s funny is that abortion was never discussed at the time of the founding. It’s not in the Constitution not because the Founders thought that it should be delegated to the states, it simply just wasn’t part of the national discussion at all. The Founders would never have imagined that abortion would become the nightmare that it is today, being founded on Christ and a moral template.

Exactly. A lot of the perversions and aberrant behavior being accepted today were unthinkable to people even a few generations removed from our own. It is analogous to why Jesus never addressed these things in the Gospels-- not because he thought them good or even inconsequential, but because for the people he was directly addressing, these things were simply unspeakable.

As John Adams observed, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
