I’m pretty sure that I knew a guy who did just that.
He was the father of a friend of mine, long dead. When I was in my early 20’s, I remember reading a news story about a lady who was walking out of a store. Some piece of human debris tried to steal her purse. The old lady was having none of it and hung on tight. As they were fighting, as the news reported an older man (he was older) in a non-descript old Buick (exact words that perfectly described his car) pulled up (1/2 mile from the gun shop he worked at). The man got out, walked over and pulled a handgun. He shot the thug in the knee and got back in his car. The old lady grabbed her stuff and left. Cops got there a few minutes later to see the thug holding his bloody knee.
Perfect happy ending.
Another one I read about, also on Detroit area. A lady was walking on the sidewalk. A thug grabbed a gold chain and ripped it off her neck and ran behind a building. A passerby ran past her. Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang. The passerby comes back and said “Your necklace is back there if you want it.”
Another happy ending.
