Sad news, I remember listening to Vin Scully broadcast Dodger games as a boy on my little transistor radio in the early 1960s. Absolutely the best sports announcer of all time.
I do, too. I had a tiny radio shaped like a satellite that could get only two stations--KFI and KRLA, whose 50,000-watt transmitters were only a few miles away. KFI carried the Dodgers, and I listened to Vin Scully announce their games every night.
The greatest ever. Since his wife passed, he had waited for his daughters to visit him every day. They always did. He lasted six years after retirement. Rest in piece, Vin.
“This is Vin Scully for Jerry Doggett wishing you all a very pleasant good evening.”
Vin Scully was likely the first voice I ever heard coming from a radio.
He made baseball come alive on the radio. Such a distinctive voice.
