The US will be remembered in history as the country that was most successful with military invasions but did not know how to conquer effectively. The Romans and Mongols could do both.
If we treated our conquests like we did Japan after WWII we’d do much better.
We did it right in Germany and Japan, but establishing a military-run benevolent dictatorship until the locals are capable of forming their own working government is currently frowned upon.
