“How in the hell do you have CRT and Common Core in a math book???”

Well, “common core” refers to a set of standards and methods for each subject for each grade level, so it’s understandable how a math text could conform to that. CRT is a real head-scratcher, though. It’s beyond disturbing if there are kiddie textbooks inserting racial politics into math problems? Wow.

I can’t wait ‘till the Florida governors debate, since the idiot that is charlie crist is bound to bring it up the truth may finally come out.

DeSantis is gonna barbecue crists ass on live tv.

There are ten humans working in a department. Two are people of color. Two are people seeking to be othersexual. Two are furries. Two are muslin vegan dwarves. Two are whyte Christian men. How many whyte Christian men will need to fired in order for the room to experience equity?

The basic problem is the federal education establishment which has a huge budget but no students. Another issue is textbooks are written for the largest possible audience and the way they are approved is usually through some state education board. Otherwise, they would and were historically approved by local school boards. The bigger the market the more the market will be controlled by those with a leftist agenda. This is a big knot to undo.

Humm. This comes to mind.

“The Gordian Knot is an Ancient Greek legend of Phrygian Gordium associated with Alexander the Great. It is often used as a metaphor for an intractable problem (untying an impossibly tangled knot) solved easily by finding an approach to the problem that renders the perceived constraints of the problem moot (”cutting the Gordian knot”):”

Remember the good old days when math was numbers and equations? And the right answer had nothing to do with how much melanin you have in your epidermis?

“Thankfully, 29% of elementary school math books still attempt to teach math. It could have been worse.”

More likely they have had a chance to get to the last 29%.

Anyone who thinks that there is ANY ‘mainstream’ math book with the slightest interest in having kids learn math is likely already sending their kids to public school. So, no reason to waste my time on them.

“I wish the their Board of Regents for all the community colleges, four year colleges, and universities (all public) would reject Howard Zinnā€™s book ā€œA Peopleā€™s History of the United Statesā€. It is not a serious work of American History and my guess is that only leftwing woke history professors use the book. BTW leftwing woke history professors encompasses most history faculty at our colleges and universities.”

The fact that this clown’s books are used at all tells you ALL YOU NEED to understand American ‘Education’. The fact that 80% of FReepers subject their kids to American ‘Education’ (my estimate), tell you how little they think about their own kids.

Textbook publishing has been firmly in the grasp of leftists for decades. It’s a lot like the advertising industry, quietly shaping opinion and perverting society right under our noses.

You are spot on with your observations. I think a lot of parents woke up during COVID 19 when their kids were home “learning” by Zoom and other on-line teaching methods.

Before that I think a good number of parents were very concerned about K-12 or even K-16 education quality but only in general. They almost always looked favorably on their own kids schools and teachers.

“They almost always looked favorably on their own kids schools and teachers.”

They have to...otherwise they would have to admit that they’re DESTROYING their own kids.

...so their kids are in the 1% of schools that are NOT grooming and are educating, and the other 99% of kids have the STUPID PARENTS, who claim to care about their kids, but still send them to the public schools.

But funny how everyone here defending that choice seems to, somehow, just live in those districts containing that 1% of schools, as well as everyone we know in our personal lives.

As you can probably tell, I’ve given up on parents, even parents who think they’re informed and conservative - they don’t give a crap about their kids if they enroll them in the public schools (and similarly, very often, for private schools) - they can rationalize it all they want, but they still don’t give a crap. They deserve what comes out.

THe entire industry is pretty much a scam. A good textbook can be used for 20 years or more. It's not like math changes every year, like some stupid fashion show. The history books might benefit from a supplement every 5 years or so, but not much more.

Homeschoolers used Saxon for math books. Probably still the best.

ABSOLUTELY - that’s why they had to kill the company.
