Nothing is surprising by these comments.
Serbia is practically the only ally Russia has in Eastern Europe of all the former Yugoslav Stalinist states.
Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, and Montenegro all would tell Russia to pound sand.
Serbia OTOH, does have “slavic brotherhood” connections with Russia.
FWIW, I believe Kosovo is a fraud nation and should never exist.
I have friends in Serbia - they are beautiful people with a strong history.
Best ever, Nikola Tesla.
Hungary too.
Nevermind. Misread your post.

Serbia and Russia have historically had close ties. It was one of the “greased skids” for WWI (a war that had been in the making years before July, 1914). When Austria-Hungary gave Serbia an impossible ultimatum (an ultimatum Austria-Hungary NEVER would have put to Serbia had not Germany promised to back up Austria-Hungary), the excuse for starting such a war was found.
“FWIW, I believe Kosovo is a fraud nation and should never exist.”
I have a tendency to agree with you on that. The problem for Serbia was that the Serbian constitution was silent on the issue of secession; and an international court ruled that a Kosovar secession was not illegal.
FWIW: I was opposed to the US and NATO getting involved in the Balkans in the 1990s.

I have Serbian friends just down the street from me. Fine folks.
