My BiL was a Detective for 10 yrs plus or minus. He is very conservative, and a very good cop/detective. He had the same problem, they wanted him to “become” SGT. When he was passed over for the 2nd time, and hit the age of 40, the new Chief busted him down to street cop. A white, conservative guy in a department with a Chief with an eye towards equity...no bueno.
He applied for, and got the Job as a Detective for Medicare and Insurance fraud for the entire State, based on his record. The cities loss, is bad news for frauds.

I have two nephews who are NYPD. Both were on the job and involved in the BLM riots. One was outside Barclays center and said he was scared sh!t. Both are very close to getting jobs with other police departments in the area.
