Sounds like more positives to me.
Get rid of the dead wood, and when the dust clears, out comes new forms of life and the species that survived get stronger.
But I wonder; hasn't it happened before? And what did any one do about it? What can anyone do about it if it happens again? Give up on fossil-fuels? Eliminate most of the planet's humans and other species?
The Earth is a living organism. It gets ill, and it gets healthy, after several renewals. It's a recycling world.
