I hear a lot of times about these weapons ‘jamming’ at inopportune moments. Seems weird to me.

You're a Marine. I got my basic firearms training from a Marine.

That means we take proper care of our weapons.

Criminals don't tend to be quite so diligent.

I have heard from friends in the cop business that criminals:

1) Don't take care of their guns very well.

2) Frequently carry them without a holster.

3) Frequently don't load them to capacity.

4) Frequently load them with oddly mismatched cartridges.

5) Don't tend to practice much

This is all not conducive to proper functioning ...

A while back someone did a study on bad guys and weapons malfunctions. IIRC about 30% of the time the weapon failed mostly due to incorrect ammunition being used.

These people aren’t members of MENSA.
