Taiwan Activates Defense, Puts Jets in Air After Incursion by China

Things may be heating up in Taiwan as the Ministry of Defense is expressing concerns about over a dozen Chinese military aircraft and naval vessels that approached near Taiwan early on Saturday morning, according to a report from Fox News.

That prompted the island defense to put fighter jets in the air and activate its missile defense system.

“11 PLA aircraft and 3 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected by 6 a.m. today,” its government said, prompting officials to send naval vessels of their own and ready land-based missile systems “to respond to these activities.”

The PLA also had forces near Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday.

11 PLA aircraft and 3 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected in our surrounding region by 6 a.m.(UTC+8) today. R.O.C. Armed Forces have monitored the situation and tasked CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and land-based missile systems to respond these activities.

“[Nine] PLA aircraft and 3 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected by 6 a.m.(UTC+8) today. R.O.C. Armed Forces have monitored the situation and tasked CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and land-based missile systems to respond to these activities,” its government said.

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry added: “2 of the detected aircraft (BZK-005 UAV RECCE and Y-8 ASW) had entered Taiwan’s southwest ADIZ, flight paths as illustrated.”

The sighting on Wednesday was the largest, with Taiwan reporting seeing 39 Chinese aircraft and three naval vessels around the island. The instance also prompted an immediate response from Taiwan’s military.

Of the detected aircraft, 30 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s southwest and southeast Air Defense Identification Zone.

This looks a lot like they’re feeling out the defenses of the island, which raises the question of whether they’re readying for an invasion there.

If they invade the island, that would raise the troubling question of how the U.S. would respond.

While the official policy of the U.S. is to be ambiguous on what we would do, Biden has said that he would respond and have troops defend Taiwan, although he has also said he doesn’t think that China is about to invade Taiwan imminently. Given that so much of our resources have been poured out into Ukraine, China may think that now is the time to act against Taiwan–and that we could ill afford to provide Taiwan with any assistance.

China has been much more aggressive in its posture ever since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) visited the island in August. As we reported, the White House showed a weak response to threats against Pelosi at that time. The Chinese threatened to shoot her out of the sky, and the White House didn’t even condemn that kind of talk. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby even said that they don’t support Taiwan’s independence. Talk about weakness, when you show that kind of face to the Chinese. They may think that they can threaten the island given that limp response, and that we won’t respond. Not exactly the best thing to show them. They only understand strength, and unfortunately, that’s not Joe Biden.

The Communists are always threatening and intimidating but, they will not actually invade. Why? The Chinese actually understand that their military personnel is totally unprepared for an extended Hot War.
Their personnel preparedness level is on par(at best) or less in relation to the Russians. That level is a hairs breath above incompetent. And, a football field distance wrt motivated.

National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby even said that they don’t support Taiwan’s independence

That has been United States policy for 50 years, under ten Presidents.

Get with the program.

“I’m pretty sure Stalin said quantity was more important than quality.”
He did. But, that was a completely different time. With completely different technology. Today, massed quantities simply mean a great many more deaths in a much more compressed timeframe.

Judging from how the Chinese military is building up,
I suspect they aren’t learning any lessons, just copying old tactics.
Innovation is forbidden in their culture. Confucius says so.
They killed off all the innovative individuals.
I do have one question, since they killed off a good percentage of daughters with the one child policy, how will their society react when thousands to millions of their young sons die?

Their society is Totalitarian. They may well respond by outlawing all contraceptives and proclaiming the Death Penalty for anyone who does not adhere to their mandates.
Exactly as they do to this day for any blatant violation of current policy.

“Their society is Totalitarian.”
I disagree. My education is they are very Communal.
They may have emperors or dictators, but they have a layer of people that run the governance that pretty much do as they damn well please as long as you go along to get along.
The USA is the same way as are most all modern governments.

LMAO. The naivete, ignorance, or perhaps just plain stupidity of that statement is mindblowing.
I hate to tell you but, your “education” isn’t worth spit. The Communist Chinese gov’t is little different than any other totalitarian gov’t. Anyone or anything perceived as a legitimate threat to them is dealt with harshly.
The limit of their “communalism” ends as soon as they perceive the slightest threat to their system of total domination of their people.

This is all a fein?

You mean ChiCom may be trying to copycat in WW2 IJN attack at Alieutia but intended long planned target Midway island?

Let's hope ChiCom don't make mistake getting inside Taiwan's ADIZ their warplanes getting shot down that would start catastrophic long-range missile exchange?

LMAO. You don’t understand a culture simply because you learn a language.
Han Chinese culture is NOT Communist Chinese Culture. No more than Judeo/Christian Constitutional Conservative American values are Democrat Socialist/Woke values. smh
God save this country from people like you. Well meaning Damned fools.

You got it all wrong once again.
China is The Han people.
I’d kill every soldier in China if I had the chance.
Many Chinese are like our Democrats, Lock step idiots.
I just appreciate the Chinese culture.
Taught us a lot.
If you can’t learn things that
seem alien to your culture,
you aren’t very bright.

“You got it all wrong once again. China is The Han people.”
No, YOU don’t get it. Matters not what the average Chinese culture is. Even if what you assert is true. Which it’s not. Otherwise, the country would not have become and remained Communist and has been for many decades.
However, let’s just say you are correct. It matters not. The gov’t is godless Communists who rule over the people with no concern whatsoever about the “Han” Culture, or any other historical Chinese culture you seem fixated upon.
In fact, like ALL totalitarian systems they rely upon people to spy upon and report upon anyone straying from the Gov’ts mandated Group Think. And, the majority of the Chinese aid and abet in this spying and betrayal of any non-Communists.

The country isn’t Communist.
It is historical Chinese.
It is what they always have been.
You don’t get it.
You can’t honestly think over a billion people are going to adopt the philosophy of a German Soy boy?
Marx lived off his parents.
They are being Chinese.

They might well do a “partial” war type thing like declaring a de-facto blockade. They have several options.

One would be to declare that ships transiting Taiwanese waters need to register their travel with Beijing and obtain permission first. That’s a way of asserting control by forcing shippers and other third parties to, effectively, kowtow.

An escalation would be to require the same of any ships transiting Taiwanese waters on the way to Japan or Korea.

An actual invasion would be, tactically, very difficult. There are few landing beaches and Taiwan has vast firepower available to cover them. It’s not about deploying millions of men, it’s about getting a few hundred ships unloaded in the face of thousands of hidden, fortified artillery pieces.
