I disagree. The movement to totalitarianism from Progressivism is natural and expected. It is the obvious result of placing more and more power in the hands of government, and removing more and more checks and balances on government power, which was a prominent goal of Progressivism.
I disagree that the current crop are "Marxists". More correctly they are Fascists, quite willing to allow the nominal ownership of big business to remain in private hands.

The Marxist conquest of the United States followed the strategies laid down in the late 1880s & 1890s and was fully implemented by the communists by the 1980s...
