It’s funny, eggs have gone outta site but I don’t find the price of chicken too much more in price.

Because egg chickens and meat chickens are two different breeds.

Egg chickens (usually leghorns) have to be around nine months before they produce marketable eggs. They then lay for about another 18 months.

Meat chickens (Cornish Cross) are harvested at 12 weeks.

You lose a batch of the meat birds you will have a new batch in four months. You lose your layers it will be ten months before you get replacements.
