Film seems better to me as well. It has a better dynamic range than most digital cameras.

My darkroom endeavor spanned form 1967 to 1992. I gave all of my darkroom equipment away. I had a B22-XL enlarger and a crap-load of accessories. I'm just tuckered out. I do enjoy working with Photoshop; but, I'm not terribly proficient.
