Do you know what a browser cache is? It is a part of your file structure on your hard drive that your internet browser uses to store images on webpages, so that it doesn't have to use the bandwidth to download the image again when you move through pages.

If I take your laptop and go to a porn website, all those images end up in your browser cache. If those images were kiddie porn, you now have kiddie porn stored on your laptop and you could be in possession of thousands of pictures and not even know it.

Not to mention the definition of cp, especially in the media is so vague. You can have a fully clothed picture of an adult be ‘cp’

That assumes you are using the same laptop you were using when you were downloading porn or haven’t cleared out the cache. The guy was around the intelligence and national security establishment and surely had to know they could track him every which possible, if he was using the same laptop for work when downloading porn that would be incredibly stupid.
