Any sufficiently powerful EMP weapon would require detonation of a specific type of nuclear explosion. This would be extremely heavy and would emit a radiation signature that would be easily detected by our own satellites long before it crossed our shores. Using a slow, large, visible balloon to carry such a device would be ridiculous. Time to knock off the comical hysteria which no doubt has the Chinese ROTFLOL.
There are tens of thousands more to go after that.
As far as I know only China has the Neutron Bomb and has twice tested it over Uyghur villages back in the late 80s, early 90s. Worked just fine.

My side job with the airlines was radio interference hunting. An EMP pulse from 60,000 feet could wipe out all electronic devices for 245 nautical miles in all directions.

Here’s the bottom line: ANYTHING that uses electricity in any form would be destroyed internally with little hope of getting functionality back. Your car, washing machine, lawnmower, digital watch, microwave oven, computer, cell phone, electric stove, etc.

But much more, ONE SECOND AFTER, depicts America thrown into the early 1800s. Hospitals, nursing homes, airports, malls, government buildings, food supply, supply chain, any pathing reliant on digital and electric services, all rendered useless. Probably as devastating as a nuclear weapon.
What’s going to happen is going to happen regardless of who we vote for and it’s not going to be good.
