PRAY for people affected by the conflict

-That people still in Ukraine will be protected from the violence; that there will be provision of essential supplies, such as food and clean water. Pray for vulnerable people who cannot flee, for example those with disabilities or the elderly. -That refugees will find safe places to stay. Pray that host communities will welcome refugees with compassion, and that there will be support for all in need. -For healing for people who are wounded or have experienced trauma; and comfort for those who are grieving. -That people living in Ukraine can access warm spaces throughout the winter. Pray that the gas and electricity infrastructure that has been damaged by shelling can be repaired so that people can heat their homes.

PRAY for those in positions of leadership

-That leaders on both sides will be filled with compassion, wisdom, calm and a desire for peace. -That world leaders will balance responding to the injustice of the invasion with seeking ways to build bridges, de-escalate tensions, and restore global security.

PRAY for peace

-That there will be an immediate end to the violence that peace will come sooner than anyone could have expected or hoped for. -That diplomatic solutions will be found that will lead to lasting peace in the region. -That people who have fled will be able to return home, and that what has been destroyed will be rebuilt. -For strength for individuals and organisations in Ukraine, Russia and the region who are working for peace at local, national and regional levels. -Let’s continue to pray and act together on behalf of people suffering the effects of violence everywhere.

High Russian troop losses in eastern Ukraine are having an impact on Vladimir Putin’s offensives in the region, British defense officials have said.
In its daily update, the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MOD) said Russia has suffered many casualties, particularly in Bakhmut, as well as Vuhledar, where “the ‘elite’ 155th and 40th Naval Infantry Brigades have sustained very high losses” and thus are “likely combat ineffective.”
The MOD said on Monday that Russian forces were facing political pressure to present gains to coincide with the first anniversary of Putin’s full-scale invasion on Friday, February 24.
“It is likely that Russia will claim that Bakhmut has been captured to align with the anniversary, regardless of the reality on the ground,” the defense officials said, adding that if there is no progress in the spring offensive then “tensions within the Russian leadership will likely increase.”

Another western assessment said Russia was struggling to replace equipment and probably lacked the resources to increase the intensity of its winter offensive in the Luhansk Oblast.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on Sunday that there had been “enormous” Russian tank losses, enough for around 16 regiments.
Russian forces almost certainly still have some reconstituted mechanized units in reserve, but these limited reserves to the Luhansk Oblast front line would be “unlikely to change the course of the ongoing offensive dramatically,” the think tank said.
While Russia might “temporarily” gain momentum, Russian forces will probably “culminate well short of its objectives and likely short of achieving operationally significant gains,” it added.
Newsweek has contacted the Russian defense ministry for comment
Director of Russia studies at the CNA (Center for Naval Analyses) Michael Kofman told the War on the Rocks podcast on Saturday that Russia’s new offensive had started three weeks ago with an attack on Vuhledar and has around five axes of advance in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Describing the offensive as a “bit underwhelming,” Kofman said it “may grow in intensity but not likely to grow in scope” unless there was another draft.
“In order to have another offensive, much larger than this, the Russian military would have had to conduct a second mobilisation,” he said, adding that they would need “several hundred thousand additional personnel.”
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Monday, meeting with Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky. It was Biden’s first visit to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale war.
The pair had met on December 21 when Zelensky went to Washington, D.C. in a visit in which Biden said the U.S. would “give Ukraine what it needs to succeed on the battlefield.”
Biden is scheduled to visit Poland this week in which he will speak with Polish President Andrzej Duda as well the leaders of the Bucharest Nine (B9), a group of Eastern European NATO Allies.

Russian Troops Film Appeal to Putin: ‘We Do Not Know Who Our Commander Is’

Video that purportedly shows Russian troops expressing discontent about the lack of a chain of command has been widely viewed online.
Ukrainian internal affairs advisor, Anton Gerashchenko, tweeted a clip he said showed mobilized Russian troops expressing a range of complaints as they stood in the snow in an undisclosed location.
In front of the group stands one soldier reading out a statement appealing to both Vladimir Putin and Alexander Burkov, who is governor of Russia’s Omsk region, whose capital city of the same name was where they were mobilized from.

The soldier says that the group is from the 504th tank regiment, which trained as artillerymen in Omsk before being sent to the Chelyabinsk Oblast town of Chebarkul for further preparation at an artillery range.
Upon their return to Omsk additional training that they were expecting was not provided and he said the regiment was sent to eastern Ukraine on January 5. After arriving in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic all its personnel were dispersed into different groups.
“Communication with our command broke down,” he said. “The only officer who stayed with us, the chief of artillery, said, ‘I am not your commander,’” and that the 504th regiment had been disbanded and had been told “we now belong to the Donetsk People’s Republic Army.”
He said that they were then retrained as infantry but after several trips to a firing range were asked for money to pay for gas. Failure to pay meant being sent to the front line. The soldier added that their military cards were collected and stamped without any date, order number or commander’s signature.
“We do not know who our commander is and what unit we belong to,” he said, adding that there was “no communication” between his regimental commander and the chief of staff, who is a lieutenant colonel.
Next to the video, which as of Monday morning had been viewed more than 75,000 times, Geraschchenko wrote: “Russian mobilized men complain: either money for gas or to the front lines.
“Today marks 162 years since slavery was canceled in Russia but they probably haven’t heard about it,” he added in the post on Sunday, referring to Tsar Alexander II’s 1861 emancipation of Russia’s serfs.
Newsweek has contacted the Russian defense ministry for comment.
The video has emerged following months of reports of low morale among Russian troops and a huge reported spike in casualties among those fighting for Vladimir Putin.
On Monday, British defense officials said that Russia has suffered many casualties, particularly in Bakhmut, as well as Vuhledar. The high losses among the “elite 155th and 40th Naval Infantry Brigades are likely to have made them “combat ineffective” the officials said.

Ukraine Posts Video Of Russian Tank Erupting In Flames Before Explosion

A video of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers engaged in intense trench warfare has gone viral on social media.

The clip shows two Ukrainian soldiers in the trench fighting back against an unknown amount of Russian troops.
The footage was posted on February 17 by Twitter user Dénes Törteli, who supports Ukraine’s fight against Russia, according to his Twitter bio. It has so far been viewed more than 2 million times.

At one point during the clip, the Ukrainian soldier shoots and seemingly injures a Russian who attempts to capture the trench.

The Ukrainian soldier then proceeds to return back to firing over the trench. It appears he also manages to shoot another Russian soldier, but the footage isn’t clear.

During the clip, the Ukrainian soldier users a variety of weapons and grenades while fighting in the trench.

Throughout the video there is also a watermark to the BritishIntelligence Telegram channel. Törteli confirmed that the video was initially posted on this channel on February 17.

According to Google translate, it was posted with the caption: “The fighter used all available weapons, constantly moved, followed the sector from which the [Russians] were storming.

“In addition to this, he also led the second fighter, to whom he assigned the role of loader.

“Despite the very short contact distance, he did not lose his self-control and demonstrated excellent skills and character.”

Last week Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted praise for the Ukrainian forces for standing up to Russian aggression.

Sharing a video of him speaking at the 2023 Munich Security Conference, Zelensky tweeted: “David defeated Goliath not by conversation, but by courage and sling.

“Courage we do have. The sling should get stronger. So that the next year we would gather for the Post-War Munich Security Conference. We shall prevail over Putin and ‘Putins’ in Russia and all over the world.”

Ahead of the one-year anniversary for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, U.S.-based think tank The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reflected on Russia’s tank losses.

In a report over the weekend the think tank said Russia has lost about half of its T-72B and T-72B3M main battle tanks.
The ISW said the losses amount to “the equivalent of around 16 tank regiments worth” and is likely “hindering Russia’s ability to reconstitute its tank units rapidly.”

“Widespread tank losses also impact the capacities of motorized rifle formations to function effectively, but motorized rifle units require fewer tanks in each and can make better use of the large amount of relatively untrained manpower the rushed Russian reserve mobilization has generated.

“The absence of reconstituted tank regiments and brigades, however, deprives the Russian ground forces of the kind of punch required to make and exploit operationally significant breakthroughs—which may explain why the WMD [Western Military District] has so far failed to make any.”

Newsweek has contacted the foreign-affairs ministries of Russia and Ukraine for comment.
