n the year since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have been killed; countless others have been wounded. Another 14 million Ukrainians have fled their homes, and Ukraine’s economy has shrunk by more than 30 percent.
Meanwhile, a year of war has brought the Ukrainian nation together like nothing in its history.
But what has happened to Russia? Beyond the casualties — estimates suggest as many as 200,000 Russian dead and wounded — how has the war that Putin started changed his country?
In some ways, what’s happened to Ukraine is clear. What’s happened to Russia is the more complicated question.

“estimates suggest as many as 200,000 Russian dead and wounded”
More propaganda. On to the next Neocon Cheerleader posting...
No it hasn’t. Any questions?
So Ukraine is winning??
“So Ukraine is winning??”
Yes
200,000 casualties seem a little high, but this indicates it is a "high end" claim.
In a near-peer conflict such as this, it is expected casualties are roughly the same on each side.
More military casualties for Russia, as it is on offense; more civilian casualties for Ukraine, as that is where nearly all the fighting is.
The question is: Who in the Russian power structure actually believes this war was necessary, and not just a "cabinet war", an adventure based on the opportunity of the moment (weak U.S. President).
It appears much closer to the stupidity of WWI than the calculated racial and geopolitics of WWII.
This article was written by a bunch of lefty reporters that previously worked at NPR, CNN, ABC, etc.

Just more propaganda.
Probably between 20 and 40 thousand Russians and 150+ Uke death toll.
Did you read your own title? Ukraine is sending teenagers to the front lines now. Is that winning?
“200,000 casualties seem a little high, but this indicates it is a “high end” claim.”
It is FABRICATED and having the media keep repeating it will NOT make it real. If it were real, Putin would either be out or Russia would have martial law by now.
Independent investigations have come up with about 15,000 Russians dead, roughly the same number that Russia owns up to.
I don’t think either side is necessarily “winning” but one side is definitely at fault and it’s not the side that was invaded.
Interesting hiw the writer describes the fear of speaking without anonymity. In a sense, America is becoming similar. Woke and cancel culture has revealed the totalitarian nature of the left.
Wait'll they end up holding the [body]bag when the DC neocons ditch the Ukraine Project.
What's left of the Ukies are gonna be really, really mad - and not at the Russians.
What's the current reliable total of dead Russian soldiers from Medusa? 14,000 or so? [Not including the Wangers or the Donetsk/Luhansk militias, I believe].
An 8-to-1 ratio in artillery will do that to ya.
Around 8-to-1 artillery ratio, and pounding the defenders before moving in has flipped the script on that, or so some military analysts are saying.
With surprise.
Did you see this one? It was a really informative one.

It will give the Zeepers a busted roid though.
Ukraine suffered ‘Tens of thousands’ of soldiers and civilians but Russia suffered 200,000.
Sounds more like propaganda
“What’s the current reliable total of dead Russian soldiers from Medusa? 14,000 or so? [Not including the Wagners or the Donetsk/Luhansk militias, I believe].”
The 14,000 includes the Russians, Wagners, and Chechens, but not the militias...so maybe 20,000 total.
And 8:1 kill ratio sounds about right (maybe a bit low), considering the huge Russian artillery advantage and that they’re priority is protecting the lives of their men, whereas Ukraine’s priority is holding land at all costs (which they are likely forced to do by their Neocon masters).
You weren't kidding about a busted roid.
"The neocons are on a mission from God."
That's a good assessment.
I was referring to an 8-to-1 artillery imbalance, but your statement above isn't changed by that.
