No US missile defense system proven capable against ‘realistic’ ICBM threats: Study
What TARGET have they hit?
No response other than apologizing to Kim by Joe for Donald Trump’s actions.
Even if that’s true, if our missile defense systems detect the launch and determine it could be headed toward Hawaii or the West Coast, you send everything and the kitchen sink at the missile hoping you get lucky, you don’t sit back and say we’re screwed because our systems don’t work and launch and immediate nuclear attack
I bet they can’t reach DC. Let’s keep it a close secret how much the American people love DC and how devastated we would be if they nuked it.
No.
Not enough time for the decision process.
(...and I’m NOT talking hyper-sonics; I am talking slow-witted, overly-careful, hesitant, too-many-consultants kind of slow. Institutional ‘Promethius-Bound,” slow.)
It would all be over before Biden even knew about it.
My thought as well. Maybe a shotgun blast off the balcony? That joementia huh? 😏
What about “ international waters”?
The Pentagon is raging that Russia downed a robot drone over “ international waters’ and pledges to intensify flight activity
Should NK do the same?
We would look stupid if we missed.
Nah, no shoot down.
Just have general milley vanilly give them a call.
.
And I highly doubt we would reveal our hand if we did have such a system and the Norks were just testing. If a real ICMB actually tracked to a US based target, I would hope all of North Korea would be vaporized, regardless of if the ICBM was intercepted or not.
That might be the problem. Who knows where a long range test might land?
Look how long it took to make a decision on a slow-moving balloon. With this administration, nothing is getting shot down before they gauge the sentiment on social media and their focus groups.
Who knows where it could land?
Actually, probably any second semester physics student. Definitely any Junior Year physics major.
I respectfully disagree. From the study you linked to (which specifically talks about ICBM's from NK) the analysis was based on "ground-based interceptors". Well, where on the ground would the interceptors launch from? If from the U.S. then we're talking about intercepting the missile on its decent, which is difficult. And I don't know of a ground to launch an intercept from near NK.
But include water based interceptors (Navy warships) and it's a completely different story. Now you can intercept a NK ICBM during its ascent, which is a lot easier to do. And lets not forget interceptors launched from planes. Last but not least look at intercepting the ICBM at apogee (highest point, halfway across the ocean) -- again requiring launching from either water or plane. That's what tests like this do: https://abcnews.go.com/US/us-successfully-intercepts-icbm-ship-launched-missile-historic/story?id=74248760/
Regarding NK’s upcoming missile test, I say sit back and let China show they can handle it. Let them sweat weather or not it’s okay to let nearby NK nuke up, or get embarrassed showing they can do nothing about it.
“We would look stupid if we missed.”
That thought occurred to me as well. However we need the target practice and by this time we should have the ability to take down something like that. If not what are we spending on our military budget monies on? (don’t answer that)
I doubt tbere’d be much time. Do Nork missiles correct course in flight?
