Bear spray has failed more then once.

What is BS is the idea that bear spray works well.

Black bears are by far the least effected by spray.

Then the brown kind.

Even the great bear spray proponent and bear researcher Stephen Herrero noted that predatory black bears are resistant to bear spray.

Bear spray has an expiration date of about a year. When I moved to PA I bought a can of bear spray because there are bears in my woods and I wanted an alternative to killing one. I still carried a 44 when I was working or hiking in just in case. After several years of not having used the spray I noticed it had expired so I sprayed some nearby to test it’s effectiveness. It had little or no effect on me. Perhaps bear spray fails are due to people using expired cans. At 35-40 bucks a can the stuff is not cheap.
