Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
ORYX ^ | Since February 24, 2022 and daily | ORYX

Posted on 05/02/2023 6:17:43 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“Russia has suffered 100,000 casualties since December, U.S. says”

“The United States estimates Russia has suffered 100,000 casualties since December, including more than 20,000 killed in action, the National Security Council said Monday. Roughly half of those killed, NSC spokesman John Kirby said, were working
“with the Wagner mercenary group, often ex-convicts who had been recruited from prison.”

I believe InBev is reporting earnings on Thursday. Should be interesting. Full boycott effect won’t be seen until the following earnings release. Hearing they are still in panic mode over there.

“’The shocking deterioration of Bud Light Blue’s market share continued apace through the third week of April – and actually somehow worsened. “

“the beer’s off-premise sales volume - meaning the amount of beer sold outside of restaurants and bars - had fallen by 26.1 percent from a year earlier in the week ended April 22.”

“’We’ve never seen such a dramatic shift in national share in such a short period of time”

“Last week senior executives at parent company Anheuser-Busch held a closed-door meeting with distributors in Washington, DC, where they laid out future plans - and promised to ‘spend heavily’ on Bud Light to salvage its public image, according to reports. “

“’There will be an improved screening process before any marketing hits the public. Executives will have to go through a more rigorous screening process,’ Bud Light execs said during Zoom meetings this month.”

“Discreetly, Berlin Confronts Russian Spies Hiding in Plain Sight”

“For years, Germany seemed to tolerate even flagrant Russian operations on its soil. But a new Cold War-like chill has now made the snooping difficult to ignore.”

“Every day as he settles into his desk, Erhard Grundl, a German lawmaker, looks outside his office window into the embassy he knows may be spying on him.

“I come into the office, and on a windy day, I see the Russian flag waving. It feels a bit like Psalm 23: ‘You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies,’” he said, chuckling. “I’m not religious, but I always think of that.”

In the shadow of Berlin’s glass-domed Reichstag, beyond the sandstone columns of Brandenburg Gate, German parliamentary buildings sit cheek by jowl with Russia’s sprawling, Stalinist-style diplomatic mission. For years, a silent espionage struggle played out here along the city’s iconic Under den Linden avenue.”

“Russian President Vladimir Putin was warned he could be arrested if he attends a BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) summit in South Africa in August.

Authorities in the country warned that they would be compelled to detain the president after a warrant for his arrest issued in March by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

South Africa’s Sunday Times newspaper, citing sources in the country’s government, said that a special government commission established by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to look into the international arrest warrant concluded that the country would have no choice but to arrest Putin if he traveled to South Africa for the summit.

“We have no option not to arrest Putin,” a government official told The Sunday Times. “If he comes here, we will be forced to detain him.”

Putin was expected to travel to the summit, although the Kremlin had not confirmed his attendance, to meet with the leaders of BRICs.

The newspaper reported that officials were trying to find a way around the diplomatic dilemma, with Putin’s “virtual” attendance via videolink being mooted as a possible workaround.

The paper’s sources said that “the only option we have is for [Putin] to participate in the summit via Teams or Zoom from Moscow.””

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

-—> Ukraine Situation Report: 100k Russian Casualties Since December, White House Says (Updated) <——
Over 20,000 Russians were killed in Ukraine since December, according to White House National Security Council spokesman.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/ukraine-situation-report-100k-russian-casualties-in-bakhmut-since-december-white-house-says

Excerpts:
Russia has made “incremental gains” in Bakhmut, but those gains and other actions have come at the tremendous cost of more than 20,000 Russian troops killed and 80,000 wounded across Ukraine since December, the White House National Security Council (NSC) said Monday.

Those more than 100,000 casualties since December came as “Russians attempted an offensive in the Donbas that has failed,” Kirby told reporters, including from The War Zone, Monday afternoon.

“Last December, the Russians initiated broad operations across multiple lines of effort including Vuldehar, Avdiivka, Bakhmut and Kreminna. Most of these efforts have stalled and Russia has been unable to seize any real strategic and significant territory.”

Even if Russia does capture all of Bakhmut - which has “little strategic value” to Moscow - “it would absolutely not alter the course of the war in Russia’s favor,” said Kirby. “Ukraine’s defenses in the areas surrounding Bakhmut still remain strong.”

Nearly half of Russians killed “were Wagner soldiers, the majority of whom were Russian convicts that were thrown into combat in Bakhmut without sufficient combat or combat training, combat leadership or a sense of organizational control,” said Kirby.

Asked about Ukraine’s casualty figures, Kirby said he was not going to provide them. “I reckon that’s going to be up to the Ukrainians to speak to,” he said. “We wouldn’t speak to their casualty rates or their losses. That’s up to them to speak to.

“I’m not ever going to put anything out in the public domain that’s going to make their job harder. They are the victims. Russia is the aggressor…I don’t need to abide by that same sense of courtesy for the Russians and I ain’t gonna start now.”

Current and future operations, “are only for him and his military commanders to decide,” said Kirby. “Based on our discussions with the Ukrainians about the kinds of material they needed for offensive operations that they want to conduct in the Spring, we have fulfilled nearly everything on that list. Nearly everything. I mean, it’s almost 100%.” And there’s more military aid to come, he added.

“You’ve seen over the last three, four Presidential Drawdown packages that we’ve announced that they’re very much focused on ammunition and clearing capabilities to allow them to have what they need to break through Russian defenses. And you’re gonna see continuing packages coming from us very, very soon.”

A U.S. Marine veteran was killed in the fighting near Bakhmut. Cooper “Harris” Andrews, 26, was killed on the outskirts of Bakhmut late last week, CNN reported, citing interviews with his mother and colleagues in Ukraine.

“Andrews, from Cleveland, Ohio, was hit by a mortar, his mother, Willow Andrews said, likely on April 19 on the so-called “Road of Life” - a rare access road into Bakhmut used by the Ukrainian military to resupply their forces but also evacuate civilians.”

-—> Massive Shockwave From Russian Strike May Have Been A Rocket Storage Facility Detonating <——
A chemical plant used to store old Soviet-era missiles was believed to be among the targets hit in a barrage that injured dozens.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/massive-shockwave-from-russian-strike-may-have-been-a-rocket-storage-facility-detonating

Excerpts:
The massive explosion and ensuing shock wave seen in video from the Ukrainian city of Pavlograd in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast was most likely the result of a giant secondary detonation. What seems to have been hit, although not confirmed as of yet, was a plant that is used for missile fuel and other highly volatile explosive applications. The facility has been a cause of great concern for locals in the past.

Ukraine claims it downed 15 of 18 Russian cruise missiles launched by Tu-95MS Bear-H strategic bombers, but three missiles apparently evaded air defenses. Videos posted on social media after the Russian barrage show explosions and their aftermath brightly lighting up the night sky.

Pavlograd is home to the Pavlograd Chemical Plant. That’s where fuel for Ukrainian missiles is produced, according to Euromaidan Press.

“The plant participates in tests of the rocket firing system with corrected ‘Alder-M’ [guided rockets] and anti-ship cruise missile Neptune,” according to the Ukrainian Dnipr Bridge media outlet. Domestically produced Neptune missiles were used to sink the Russian Navy’s Project 1164 Slava class cruiser Moskva. You can read about the Alder-M, known by its Ukrainian name Vilkha-M, in our deep dive here.

The plant is also where old Soviet-era SS24 ICBMs were stored and ultimately supposed to be dismantled as part of the Defense Department’s (DoD) Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program. Also known as the Nunn-Lugar program, the CTR was created “for the purpose of securing and dismantling weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their associated infrastructure in the former states of the Soviet Union,” according to the U.S. State Department.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency said it completed the provision of technical assistance to the State Space Agency of Ukraine and Pavlograd Chemical Plant in December 2018 to: “safely store SS-24 loaded solid motor cases; support the safe removal of propellant; and deliver and commission a complex Eisenmann incinerator to eliminate empty motor cases.”

... with some people calling it a “ticking time bomb” where more than 1,800 tons of expired rocket fuel was stored.

The facility is also used to store part of the 55 million stockpiled antipersonnel landmines designated for destruction under the Mine Ban Treaty, according to the International Campaign to Band Land Mines (ICBL).

“In Ukraine, we regret that has been no stockpile destruction since 2020 and the end of an agreement between Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency to destroy the remaining stockpiled mines at the Pavlograd Chemical Plant,” ICBL stated in November 2022.

-—> Evidence Of American Zuni Rockets Arming Ukrainian Su-25s Emerges <——
The first photos have appeared showing air-launched 5-inch Zuni rockets in Ukraine, apparently arming Su-25 attack jets.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/evidence-of-american-zuni-rockets-arming-ukrainian-su-25s-emerges

Excerpts:
At least some of the 5-inch Zuni air-launched rockets pledged to Ukraine by the United States have now been delivered, according to new photos.

The unguided rockets appear to be in use with the Ukrainian Air Force’s Su-25 Frogfoot attack aircraft, which have so far been extensively used for attacks on Russian positions using Soviet-era rockets, supplies of which are apparently now running low.

The photos in question began to circulate on social media today and show a weapons cart loaded with live Zuni rockets, in front of a Ukrainian Air Force Su-25 in distinctive ‘digital’ camouflage as well as blue and yellow identification panels.

The rockets nearest to the camera have had morale-boosting Ukrainian-language slogans applied, something we have seen on other air-launched weapons in the past.

In this case, one rocket carries the words “This is the answer for the kids in Uman‘ and all Uman‘ people,” while the other reads “Rusnya, burn in hell for your crimes!”

The first slogan almost certainly relates to the Russian airstrike on an apartment block in the city of Uman‘ last Friday, which killed at least 23 people, suggesting the photo is very recent.

The transfer of 4,000 Zuni rockets to Ukraine was first confirmed back in January, as part of a $3-billion Pentagon aid package that was headlined by 50 M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, which have also now started to arrive in Ukraine. You can read more about that particular arms package in our original report here.

The Zuni itself is essentially a sort of a ‘system’ consisting of a standardized rocket motor/main section onto which different warheads can be attached. While the importance of the basic Zuni rocket in the U.S. inventory gradually diminished following the arrival of more precision-guided ordnance (including laser-guided rockets), ending in its final withdrawal, the history of this weapon is long and its combat record is impressive.

With a large assortment of warhead types and fuzes available, it’s very likely that Ukraine has received different types which can then be employed against various targets (armored vehicles, troops, etc.) as required. Illumination and smoke warheads are other options, for targeting.

-—> Airship Spotted Outside Giant Secretive Hangar In China <——
China’s extensive airship and balloon programs have seen new scrutiny after multiple shoot-downs over U.S. and Canadian airspace this year.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/airship-spotted-outside-giant-secretive-hangar-in-china

Excerpts:
BlackSky released the image showing the apparent airship/aerostat outside the hangar in China’s western Xinjiang Autonomous Region, seen at the top of this story and below, earlier today, but it was taken on November 4, 2022.

The company says it caught the craft again there two days later. In August, one of its satellites also spotted a large rectangular cradle on the paved access strip in front of the hangar, a device that’s been seen a the site before, as The War Zone reported on two years ago. CNN was the first to report on the new BlackSky images.

CNN estimated the airship/aerostat to have a length of around 100 feet. This is far smaller than the hangar and the cradle it houses. At some 1,150 feet long and 450 feet wide, the hangar is one the largest anywhere on Earth and is big enough that you could slip a Nimitz class supercarrier inside and still have around 100 feet on either side to spare.

The lighter-than-air craft likely seen in the BlackSky imagery is also not nearly as large as various stratospheric airships that organizations in China say they tested over the years. This includes a design called the Yuan Meng with a stated length of 75 meters (approximately 246 feet) and another known as the BNST-KT-02, which was reported to be 100 meters long (around 328 feet)

Construction of the huge airship hangar in Xinjiang appears to have begun in 2013 and looks to have been completed around 2015. In 2022, our Downlink team analyzed then-new imagery from Planet Labs showing significant expansion at the site, including a possible annex to the hangar, as seen below.

The hangar and its adjacent facilities are part of a much larger high-end test complex, which includes sites linked to work lasers, high-powered microwaves, and electromagnetic pulses, as you can read more about here. It is also relatively close to the secretive Malan Air Base, a major People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) test and evaluation hub.

“A number of patents involving airship technologies were recently reassigned to a new PLA [People’s Liberation Army] group – Unit 63660,” CNN reported, citing Eli Hayes, a China researcher at the Middlebury Insitute of International Studies (MIIS) at Monterey who has long delved in the country’s lighter-than-air developments.

“A CNN review of Chinese patents confirms that the new unit holds a number of other patents relating to airship technology and storage, and that they were recently reassigned from a previous PLA unit.”

[ Sudden Plague Outbreak | They Caught A Fatal Disease | Russians on Quarantine! Defensive Line is Empty!!! ]

••Day 432: May 01

Today the biggest news comes from the South.

Here, after sending a huge shock through the Russian supply lines, Ukrainians shifted their focus from the rear back to the front in order to make the crisis reach the Russians on the zero line.

Russians tried to respond by building even more fortifications, but as they started digging trenches on the former burial ground, their troops contracted a fatal disease, which took the whole detachment out of the front.

Last time I told you that Ukrainians started undermining Russian defense by devoting most of their efforts to disrupting Russian logistics. I also told you that Russians lost 10 oil reservoirs in Sevastopol, 3 oil tankers in Nyzhnyi Novgorod, and a lot of troops and equipment due to precision strikes.

The freshest reports suggest that both sides decided to try to cripple each other before the main battle. In order to reciprocate the damage, Russian forces conducted a massive missile strike. The spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russians developed a new tactic to break through Ukrainian air defense.

Previously, Russians would launch several waves of drones before the missiles and program these missiles for multiple trajectory changes in order to confuse air defense operators, but as Ukrainians got more skilled and the room for unexpected maneuvers was reduced to zero, Russians were forced to come up with something new.

As Caliber rockets are more precise than Kh-101, Russians would use the latter to unload Ukrainian air defense and clear the way for several Caliber rockets.

In the aftermath of one such strike, Russian forces managed to destroy what looks like a huge ammunition depot in Pavlograd. Pavlograd is one of the main logistical hubs in eastern Ukraine, and the air above this town is well protected. But the new tactic allowed Russians to trick Ukrainian air defense operators and misallocate the targets, which resulted in a weak spot in the sky and allowed at least one rocket to slip through.

In the meantime, after striking the main Russian logistical hubs and inflicting indirect damage to the Russian defense line, it was high time Ukrainians shifted their focus closer to the front to inflict direct damage to the defense line.

The main targets of Ukrainian artillery became Russian positions around Nesterianka because, as you remember, over the last several weeks, Ukrainians have made significant advances around this village and started undermining its defense.

The first target of the Ukrainian 44th Artillery Brigade became a tank that was assigned to reinforce a strong point along the tree line. This was not the only position reinforced with tanks, in fact, it is a prevalent practice to fortify open areas with tanks. It has its advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand, in a ground assault, it is virtually impossible to breach a strong point in the field that is under the protection of a dug-in tank. On the other hand, it is an easy target for the artillery.

Ukrainian drone operators also unveiled hidden trucks in the tree lines together with an armored personnel carrier, which were likely used to deliver ammunition. As seen from the footage filmed by a Ukrainian fighter, they are constantly battling with the enemy mortar crews. So, it did not take long to reveal the positions of the mortar crews and their field ammunition depot.

As a result of the coordinated actions on the part of drone operators and artillery crews, Ukrainians destroyed 3 tanks, 4 trucks, 1 armored personnel carrier, and 2 ammunition depots around Nesterianka. This is quite a significant hit for such a small section of the front line and might indicate that Ukrainians will soon attempt to widen their bridgehead further. That is why Russians continue digging new trenches in order to boost their defense.

Unfortunately for Russians, they started digging trenches and making a new defense line on the territory of the former burial ground for infected cattle. Ukrainian Head of Melitopol reported that while building new strong points, Russian forces contracted anthrax, which can be a fatal disease that requires immediate treatment.

Because Russians realized it too late, people that were showing clear symptoms were sent to Russia, while the whole detachment was put on quarantine. The equipment was left untouched, and the dedicated defense area became an exclusion area. If the detachment communicated with other people, for example, those who delivered supplies or with their commanders, then the implications can be far-reaching.

And it is not necessary for the disease to spread to cause trouble. It is the preventative measures that can undermine Russian capabilities the most, as communication may be restricted, which may mean fewer supplies and, more importantly, worse control over the readiness of the Russian army to meet the Ukrainian offensive.

[ Attack Plan | How Will The Ukrainian Counterattack Start? We Push Them in Bakhmut ]

••Marinka:
Has been taken by Russians - after one year of attacks.

==
Avdiivka:
Russians lost some ground. UA troops used armored vehicles to get to the Russian trenches and infantry proceeded to clean them out.

==
Bakhmut:
Russian’s claim the took another 120 meters somewhere. UA began a counter attack.

==
Kherson:
Russian artillery struck a Ukrainian building near the channels Pudova Protoka and Staryi Dnipro in the delta. The claim the building was occupied by UA troops rest solely on the Russian claim.

==
Cell phone data reveals that most Russian troops are located around the Bakhmut area, with few troops along the front in the south.

==
The Offensive:
The ground is still soft but the next week it should dry enough. Explosions in the important Russian supply hubs of Tomak and Mykhailivka. Russian defense lines in those areas are outstanding and the longest in the history of war. Just one line goers from Melitopol to Berdanysk - 75km long.

UK INTEL said big and outstanding does not always mean good. Once breached the orc’s rear is wide open.

The Plan:
Published by an America soldier who knows the tactics.

Phase 1:
The Surveillance Phase. Where as much information is collected as possible. Drones and satellites will help locate exact positions and dispositions of Orcs, with the additional goal of understanding the logistics of their supplies.

Phase 2:
Preparation to Eliminate resources. Mortars can be used on the first line, artillery on their second line, and precision artillery on their artillery batteries and their rear supplies. The response will help predict the Orc counterattack.

Phase 3:
Breaching. Engineers cross the mine fields with special vehicles, then fall back.

Phase 4:
Assault. Go to direct fight with Orc infantry. Heavy tanks and infantry go first to take the first line.

If unable break through the trenches and barricades, then the attack will fail.

Phase 5:
Consolidation and reorganization. Heavy tanks fall back to refuel and resupply. Light armored vehicles move forward to attack Orc resistance points.

[ Now might be the tine to watch this video to understand better. Some tactics have changed since the 90s. There are other videos on this subject - some detail heavy, others taken from game play. ]
Combined Arms Breach, 1990

==
Phase 6:
Continue the attack. Penetrate the Orc lines and continue attack. The Orc lines are also long that they do not have enough troops in the South to cover the trenches, and so there will be weak spots where they can be easily penetrated.

==
Fuel train in Brans’k was derailed. Someone blew up a section of the rail line, and caused a major derailment. The cars are mostly OK, but the engine was totaled. No fires or explosions. However, this will cut supplies for some time.

==
The attack yesterday on Pavlohrad mostly succeeded in burning off old rocket fuel stored at the plant because there was no where to move it. No ammo was harmed in the wonton Orc attack.

==
Only 5 countries voted against the resolution between the UN and the Council of Europe, naming Russia as an aggressor nation against Ukraine. China and Kazakhstan were not among them.

Switzerland replaces Russia as the President of the UN Security Counsil.

Finland is preparing to allow US bases on their territory ... [ Mighty Putin, the well-known genius, will have US forces permanently stationed near his border, such a success! ]

“Explosions in occupied Sevastopol are reported. There is some ambiguity because there are also reports about explosions in Simferopol at the same time.”

Russia’ losses in Bakhmut have already exceeded combined Soviet and Russian armies’ losses in all wars and conflicts between 1945 and 2022. It is terrible to imagine what Russia would have done to Europe if not the brave and efficient Ukrainian army.
