In a follow-up to our feature on how Australia’s surplus upgraded F/A-18 Hornets could be well suited for reequipping Ukraine’s war torn air force, The War Zone has confirmed that Ukraine is indeed exploring if the jets could be a fit for its very pressing needs.
“We are at the early stage studying the technical characteristics and operability of the aircraft,” Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia, told The War Zone Wednesday afternoon.
While Myroshnychenko told us that “Ukraine has not officially requested the Hornets” just yet, buzz about RAAF Hornets possibly heading to Kyiv has been building.
“High-level international negotiations are continuing between Australia, Ukraine, and the United States over the fate of the decommissioned fighter aircraft, in what could become this country’s largest-ever single transfer of military equipment to a foreign power,” the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) wrote last week.
A day earlier, the Australian Financial Review posited a similar idea, saying that the Biden administration “is favorably disposed to the idea of gifting Ukraine the F/A-18s.”
After the upgraded FA/-18A/Bs were retired in 2021, Texas-based adversary air contractor RAVN Aerospace (then called Air USA) entered into an agreement to purchase up to 46 of the multi-role fighters. They are currently housed at RAAF Base Williamtown in varying states of airworthiness.
Sources familiar with the negotiations told ABC that “RAVN Aerospace is willing to ‘on-sell’ the Hornets to Ukraine but first requires approval from the White House given the fourth-generation fighters have American intellectual property.”
The War Zone understands that if the jets don’t get transferred to another party, and soon, they will be shredded.
“Considering what is happening in Ukraine, and the country’s extreme need for Western fourth-generation fighter capabilities, having dozens of upgraded F/A-18s in good condition just languishing in storage seems like a remarkable missed opportunity.
With this in mind we set out to get to the bottom of the status of the Hornets and what could be possible not just in terms of providing fighters for Kyiv’s cause but also rapidly training pilots and ground crews to support that cause.”
Australia’s ability to consider such a transfer is only possible because it transitioned to more modern F/A-18F Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers, and F-35 Lighting II Joint Strike Fighters. The RAAF’s first squadron of F-35s became operational in 2021.
While all this remains in the discovery stages at this time, at least publicly, we have seen other advanced weapons acquisitions for Ukraine ramp up drastically if the powers that be come together on the subject.
The optics of shredding capable jets that are well suited for Ukraine’s needs while the country is begging the world for 4th generation fighter capability would be abysmal, regardless.

After watching the video, a U.S. defense official with years of armor operations and Bradley tactics experience told us it appeared the tank was trying to crush the MRAP on purpose.
“I believe the tank was moving that vehicle into an angle where it could crush it,” the official told us. “I believe that MRAP was possibly stuck in an awkward angle, and potentially had damage to its suspension.”
The tank tried to push the MRAP, possibly stuck in a ditch, but may have damaged the axel in the process, the official said.
“The tank crew made the decision to destroy the vehicle so the enemy can’t recover it or use it for propaganda purposes,” the official said.

Today there is a lot of good news from the south.
Ukrainian forces continued successfully advancing in all main directions.
Yesterday, I told you that Levadne may very soon become the main axis of advance, and today Russian sources confirmed that after de-mining the field and conducting small reconnaissance-in-force operations, Ukrainians launched a much bigger attack.
Russian sources reported that Ukrainians are advancing not only eastward but also southward and that today Ukrainian assault units established control over multiple Russian positions in the tree lines.
Ukrainian forces are also ramping up the intensity of the attacks in the direction of Rivnopil.
Today Russian sources reported that Ukrainians assaulted this settlement with up to 5 tanks and 5 armored fighting vehicles.
The goal of this combination of attacks remains to even out the front line and set the conditions for a broader line of advancement.
Ukrainian fighters continue releasing footage showing their newly captured positions and the process of sorting the captured equipment, cleaning the trenches, and preparing the trenches for defending against potential Russian counterattacks.
Other Ukrainian assault units demonstrated their trophies captured in the aftermath of heavy fights.
They said that judging by the quality of the equipment, they were fighting against extremely well-prepared Russian forces, not some under-equipped mobilized soldiers that did not know how to effectively use complex weapons, which makes the victory only more meaningful.
Ukrainians also confirmed that they captured multiple pieces of heavy equipment, such as tanks and armored fighting vehicles.
When it comes to the Russian counterattack, as expected, Russian forces failed to recapture Makarivka due to the weak control over the tactical heights around this settlement.
Russian sources reported that they relocated their forces from the Orikhiv front to increase the scale and potency of their counterattack and opened another direction, namely, Urozhaine.
Some sources claim that the village is now in the grey zone, and the ongoing clashes do not cease because Ukrainians stubbornly continue to hold the line.
In order to undermine Russian offensive capabilities, Ukrainian forces have deployed several HIMARS crews to the region to conduct precise counterbattery fire.
Geolocated footage showed how Ukrainians destroyed 5 Russian artillery systems: 2 near one tree
line and 3 near another tree line.
All self-propelled artillery systems were located near Yalynske, which is approximately 17 km behind the front line.
In a desperate attempt to change the situation, Russian forces hacked the radio in the region and started broadcasting a message.
They claimed that Ukrainian positions were cut from two sides and there was no escape, and the Ukrainian command did not plan to save them, which is why other forces have already left their positions.
They said this was their last chance to capitulate because all Ukrainian reserves had been destroyed.
Ironically, in the meantime, Ukrainians conducted a massive HIMARS strike on Russian reserves and eliminated more than 200 Russian soldiers.
This caused a massive scandal and unofficial investigation in the Russian media space, and Russian sources quickly found out and published the cause and results of the Ukrainian strike.
If you still remember, around 3 months ago, I made a video about the biggest tank battle in Ukraine that took place in front of Vuhledar.
I told you that in the aftermath of disastrous planning, Russian forces lost almost 150 tanks and armored fighting vehicles and several brigades worth of troops.
There were 2 people responsible for this disaster: Lieutenant-General Rustam Muradov and Colonel Sakhrab Akhmedov.
Interestingly, in their reports, they claimed that they achieved unbelievable success, which is why Putin signed an executive order to give both of them a higher rank, and Rustam Muradov became a Coloner-General, while Sakhrab Akhmedov became a Major-General.
As you might have already guessed, the success of the Ukrainian HIMARS strike was only possible because these commanders were left in charge.
Russian sources reported that Sakhrab Akhmedov wanted to give a motivational speech to his troops and called everyone to assemble in the yard and wait for him.
Unfortunately for Russians, Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operators quickly noticed the parade, gave the coordinate to the HIMARS crews, and eliminated at least 200 Russian troops.
So, Akhmedov effectively killed his own troops by ordering everyone to gather in the plain sight of the enemy and forcing everyone to wait for an extended period of time.
Even the most prominent Russian sources are calling for the execution of General Akhmedov by firing squad, and they claimed that such Russian commanders killed more Russians with their criminal orders than Ukrainians did with weapons.

As for the Chechen General there is no video evidence of him to be well and alive. Maybe he isn’t dead but something went wrong with him since he is not posting anything on his social media.

15.06.2023 the update.
Today I can finally start informing more about what is happening around Bakhmut, especially in the north of the city. My “boys” in the area have been in contact and the information I am giving today has been approved by the military authorities in the respective area.
An active operation is underway around the town of Blahodatne west of Soledar, the aim of which is to drive the tourists towards Soledar as soon as possible. The operation is thus taking place 3 km behind the official front line. We operate with a smaller squad but the led ??fi?? is getting exhausted and has major maintenance problems.
The weather has been worse in the Bakhmut area, but the ground has dried up and activities have again intensified around Klischiivka and Berdivka.
The tourists had a “minor” incident in the Kreminna area. They had prepared a traditional Soviet ceremony where they gathered large numbers of people to listen to a pep talk by Akhmat General Delimkhanov wanted to arrive at the place with pomp and circumstance so he came in a convoy of about 20 vehicles; this was noted by our reconnaissance guys in good time and when the general was about to start talking/shouting, our missiles came to visit.
There is talk of 100 dead with as many injured. the general’s situation is still unclear but the Chechen chief called in his troops and helicopters from Marinka to evacuate.
How anyone can be so stupid as to position their troops to become sitting ducks is beyond me.
This is Vuhledar 2.0.
Avdiivka area is the only front line where the tourists try an offensive but in vain. Their troops were worn down more and more which can be seen in the intensity of their attacks.
In the southern sector, the contact line of the tourists grinds down to a slow walk; although it is not visible on Deep State map, in reality it happens continuously, remember that Deep State map has a delay of up to 72 hours.
South of Novodanylivka, we have taken an area of 4 km x 1.5 km back and secured the area. After each securing of reclaimed ground, we advance our troops and regroup. Slowly but surely we are in a position to release everything we have.
At Rivnopil, the noose is being tightened and the tourists are being attacked with our kamikaze drones.
So to the Crimea, where legionella and gastroenteritis cases have started to appear due to deteriorating water quality. The first epidemics of the dust disaster have begun!!!
Today I will also meet my good friend who is on the Lyman front and find out how they are doing on that front line.

Even though the missile strike on May 29 at the Ministry of Intelligence is filmed plunging into the river, Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov has been once again been declared dead from wounds he did not suffer by the missile that didn’t strike the building which he was not in.

The European Parliament has voted in favor of a resolution calling EU membership negotiations with Ukraine to start this year and for NATO to present a path for Ukraine to NATO membership at the Vilnius summit together with security guarantees until membership.
The Ukrainian Army has advanced by another kilometer south of Vuhledar.

"The Armed Forces continue their counter offensive operations in the Berdyansk and Bakhmut directions.
This was stated by the spokesman of the General Staff Andriy Kovalev.
Currently, fighting continues in the Berdyansk direction in the area of the village of Makarivka and in the areas of the villages of Novodanilivka and Novopokrovka of Zaporizhzhya region.
"In the direction of Bakhmut, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted assault operations in the direction of Rozdolivka - Krasnopolivka and Berkhivka - Yagidne, and were successful," said Andriy Kovalev.
As of now, offensive and defensive operations are ongoing in various directions, the MoD deputy head Hanna Maliar reported this evening.
