If I am flying in a plane, cruising on a ship, or diving in a submersible, or having a liver transplant, I wasn’t someone with gray hair who has lots of experience.

He said they are "uninspiring".
Words mean things, and careful reading is important.
This guy suffered from the delusion that only young people can inspire other young people to enter some field of endeavor. It's a stupid and dangerous mentality: it places style over substance, and rejects experience in favor of appearance.
