There must be a better word, because, ‘conquered’ doesn’t sound much better than ‘stolen’.

The land was developed by those that came from foreign lands and civil societies were created, and little by little, we ended up with the greatest country ever known on the planet.

Conquered means that we fought for it, and took it from whoever was there before. Anyhow, we’re her now, and the past is the past, and we now have to move forward.

We civilized and modernized and organized. Give me a better word than conquered.

How about "spear-won," as the Macedonians used to say? Anyway, "Conquered" sounds just fine with me.

Have to disagree. "Conquered", a'la Los Conquistadores in Mexico and South America, is a perfectly apt term. Everyone living in every place is descended from people who took that piece of ground from someone else. More often than not from someone whose complexion and language or religion differed from theirs. To say it should be "given back" begs the question "to whom?".

Or does this only apply to English speaking white people? (Rhetorical Question)
