Beat me to it.

Japan did not surrender after Hiroshima. They were willing to carry on fighting.

After Nagasaki, they changed their mind.

The bombs were necessary — and they saved a million lives. Mostly they saved Japanese lives. The invasion of the home islands was going to be awful for everyone.

We’re damn lucky Tojo didn’t off Hirohito, and then blame his “martyrdom” on the Americans.

Can you imagine the impact that would have had.

After the 2nd bomb, Japan SURRENDERED!!!!

This article is a load of crap. The Japanese Emperor met with the Imperial Council the day after the bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 and they voted not to surrender. Japanese military leaders hoped that if they held out until the ground invasion of Japan began, they would be able to inflict so many casualties on the Americans that Japan still might win some sort of negotiated settlement. When the council met on 10 August, the day after the Nagasaki bombing, they voted 4-3 to surrender and the Emperor casted the tie-breaking vote.

Some say “the Japanese knew they were defeated” - some of them did, but many did not.

There was a large faction that was prepared to fight to the death. Everyone ignores the fact this group attempted a coup in early August.

the Atomic Bomb actually gave the “peace faction” the upper hand over the “fight-to-the-death-faction.”

Hirohito’s top officers wanted to keep fighting after the 2 bombs.

Only the Emperor finally deciding not to, had these top men stand down.
